The creators of popular games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero – miHoYo – appear to be working on a new project. They’ve posted a job listing seeking people to help develop a large-scale, realistic fantasy open-world MMO using the Unreal Engine 5.
This project is in its initial stages, so information is limited. However, we’re starting to see what might be a major change in direction for the company.
A New Style and Direction for miHoYo
As ResetEra users noted, this information originated from a job posting by miHoYo’s hiring team.
They briefly revealed a new, unannounced project designed to attract potential employees. The full video is available to watch above.
Although the short preview doesn’t reveal much, the job posting offers some interesting details. Most notably, the game is being built with Unreal Engine 5. This is a shift, as the studio has typically used Unity for their previous projects.

During a recent recruitment event, miHoYo revealed an image of a mysterious character battling a huge, manticore-like beast. This artwork suggests a more grounded and realistic fantasy look for their upcoming game, a departure from the anime style seen in their previous titles. The visual style is consistent with the brief teaser video they released.
Given the visual style they appear to be aiming for with their new game, switching to Unreal Engine 5 is a logical choice. The engine is simply better suited for creating realistic graphics.
Recruitment Poster Provides Extra Details

Lastly, they also shared a recruitment poster alongside the video. It contains some keywords related to the project and a brief synopsis. As translated by users on ResetEra, they read as follows:
- “Enter a grand fantasy world. Ancient mysteries, evil ghosts and beasts, legendary heroes… Get to know your companions… Restore the collapsed order, end the corrupt contract, and face the impermanent divine will. The journey to uncover the truth is your hero story.”

- -UE5 Engine
- -Realistic Fantasy Game
- -Open World
- -MMO
- -PvP
- -Artificial Intelligence Stimulated Eco System
- -All-Terrain Battle AI
- -Boss Fight
- -Intellectual NPC
The text also briefly mentions AI, but it appears to be referring to the standard AI used in video games to control characters or enemies. It doesn’t seem to suggest the use of more advanced AI like generative AI.
The project will also include player-versus-player combat. Considering this, along with the fact that it’s an MMO, this game seems different from previous miHoYo titles. It probably won’t be a traditional single-player, story-driven experience.
Since the project is still in the early stages of hiring, it’s probably a long way off from being released. However, it will be fascinating to see miHoYo explore a new direction, different from the games they’re famous for.
