Mikayla Matthews is hoping that 2026 will be the year she puts her health challenges behind her.
The star of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives recently shared details of a doctor’s visit, hoping to finally find some answers about a long-term health issue she’s been dealing with.
Visibly upset after a recent allergy appointment, the 25-year-old shared in a TikTok video on January 27th how frustrating it is to not have clear answers. She expressed her disappointment, saying she wished she could offer more information but felt helpless.
Mikayla described her allergy test – which checked for 90 different allergens – as “the worst 15 minutes of my life” because it was so itchy. The test showed she has heightened sensitivities to several things, including eggs, milk, grass, cats, dogs, and horses.
The reality star explained she wasn’t sure what was causing her skin problems, but she’s planning to try eliminating eggs and milk from her diet for a month or two to see if it makes a difference.
She also pointed out that because she doesn’t regularly interact with dogs, cats, or horses, that isn’t the source of her problem.
Mikayla, a mom of four—8-year-old Beckham, 6-year-old Haven and Lottie, 4-year-old Tommie, and 6-month-old Lottie—shared her frustration in a TikTok caption. She and her husband, Jace Terry, repeatedly visit doctors hoping for answers about their children’s health, but she says they often leave feeling disappointed and with no new information.
I had a similar test done about two years ago with the same results,” she said. “I’m going to try eliminating both milk and eggs to see if it improves the hives and rashes I’ve been experiencing.

I’ve been following Mikayla for a while now, and back in May 2023, she bravely shared that she’s actually been dealing with chronic eczema since she was a little girl. She also mentioned at the time that she’d had a flare-up on her face after getting breast implants in March. It’s so relatable to see her open up about these health struggles!
Despite ongoing problems, the influencer discussed her recurring skin issues on Instagram in September 2024. She explained that they had reappeared after giving birth to her child, Tommie, in November 2021.
The situation became more difficult when Mikayla began filming the first season of Mormon Wives, as she shared she had been struggling to survive.
She shared in an Instagram post last September that filming the first season was incredibly draining, both physically and emotionally. She admitted she was going through a really difficult time.

Okay, so she finally talked about it! In January 2025, she revealed she’d been battling a chronic illness this whole time while filming the show. Can you believe it? She said she was just trying to power through and be there, even though she was secretly suffering. It’s just… heartbreaking to think about everything she went through, and still managed to film! I’m so proud of her for finally sharing, and honestly, it makes me love her even more.
She explained that throughout 2024, she focused on eliminating negativity and harmful influences from both her health and her personal life.
Mikayla isn’t alone in speaking openly about her health. Here are other celebrities who have also shared their personal health struggles…

Nikki Bella, known from Total Bellas, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit during an elbow strike from wrestler Piper Niven in a match that took place in July 2025.
She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would eventually get the issue resolved. She explained to the doctor that as soon as her professional commitments ended – specifically, after retiring from her current job – she would return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best. She wanted to make sure things were presentable for future opportunities.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.
She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.
She explained that growing up, people are often told that periods are painful and that pain is just something women have to deal with. This leaves many of us feeling like we’re going through a difficult experience by ourselves, when it actually affects most of us.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she had been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.
Someone messaged Suki on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, asking why she hadn’t posted recently. Suki jokingly replied that she’d been hiding a serious health issue – a hernia caused by wearing extremely tight pants six months ago – and was afraid to mention it.

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to fix a nearly burst appendix.
Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained that his appendix had a perforation – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

A Racing Louisville midfielder fell to the ground early in her team’s game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player sat down on the field with a teammate supporting her, and then quickly collapsed. Trainers were called to assess her condition.
I was so relieved to hear that Savannah got immediate medical attention right on the field. The NWSL posted later that night saying she was taken to a local hospital to be checked out further, but thankfully, she’s stable and alert. It was scary, but I’m so glad she’s doing okay.

As someone who’s always been interested in well-being, I found Adam Devine’s recent comments really resonated. He shared that a childhood accident – he was hit by a cement truck when he was just 11 – still causes him issues today. It’s a powerful reminder that even things that happen years ago can have lasting effects on our bodies and overall health.
“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I experience spasms throughout my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation—within the past year, actually.”
He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl to get help, and the pain had gotten worse during a road trip with a friend.
He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a single squat or stand on one foot without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I was absolutely devastated to hear that Gina Kirschenheiter’s ex-husband, Matt, had a heart attack back in March of 2025. It was so scary, but thankfully, he pulled through! I’m just so relieved he’s okay, and sending all the good vibes to Gina and their family. Seriously, I was on the edge of my seat when I heard!

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
The comedian later posted on social media to explain he had food poisoning, but was starting to feel better.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Christina Applegate – Christina Applegate! – told everyone back in February 2025 that she was actually SHOT in the face! Can you even imagine?! Apparently, she was out shooting clay pigeons with her husband, Brendan Rooney, to celebrate his birthday, and… well, an accident happened. I’m just so worried about her, but also completely fascinated by the story. It’s just… so Christina!
It was terrifying. We were with another group, and someone carelessly fired a gun in the wrong direction – I ended up getting shot in the face. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney was incredible. He instantly checked me over and got me to the hospital as fast as possible. I was hit five times, and one bullet actually came within less than an inch of my right eye. It was a truly scary experience, and I’m so grateful for Brendan’s quick thinking.
The former Kim Possible star explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll be keeping a close watch on the situation. Thankfully, their vision is currently normal.
The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she loves her family and friends, saying, ‘I realized how precious life is, and you should cherish every moment with the people you care about because things can change so quickly.’

While the internet isn’t always a kind place, Amy Schumer is happy that, in this case, it helped her get answers.
“The internet really came for me after doing a bunch of press, and I was like, ‘OK everybody, relax,'” Amy recalled of her “puffier” face on a January 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy. “But then doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were like, ‘No no, we think something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy that we think something’s up. And I’m like, ‘Wait, I’m getting trolled by doctors?’”
After these doctors said they thought she had Cushing syndrome and that it may be caused by spiking coritsol levels or steroid injections, the Life & Beth creator thought, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections in my scars.”
“I had a breast reduction, a C-section, whatever, and so I was getting these steroid injections,” Amy said. “So it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”
Toda, Amy is just relieved she’s OK. As she shared in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald shared with ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very fortunate, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began having stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and experiencing drooping on the right side of her face. Although her symptoms briefly subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

It was a tough year for both my husband, Justin, and me. Not long after my own health challenge, Justin received a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome in June 2022. It’s a really scary thing – a virus that attacks the nerves in your ear and face, causing temporary paralysis. He bravely shared with fans in a video that it affected one side of his face – he couldn’t blink, smile, or even move his nostril on that side. He even admitted it was becoming difficult to eat. It was a really frightening time for us, but thankfully, with time, the paralysis subsided. He’s doing so much better now, and I’m incredibly grateful he’s on the mend. It was a random and scary situation, but he’s going to be totally okay.

Jamie Foxx initially kept his health issues private after being hospitalized in April 2023, but he later shared what happened. He described having a severe headache in Atlanta and asking for aspirin. Before he could take it, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next 20 days.
He first saw a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.
After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for all the prayers he received, saying he needed them all.

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light, leading her to realize she had died that day.
Let me tell you, I was seriously unwell. I actually didn’t know what was happening to my body, but it turns out I had rhabdomyolysis. Basically, it’s your body’s emergency signal – a way of saying things are going into critical shutdown. It was a scary time, realizing my organs were starting to fail, and I hadn’t even realized what was causing it!

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Immediate surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.
Though she left the hospital after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors needed to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia Clarke is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how thankful she is for her family’s support. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending a text and a picture. She told TopMob News that everyone quickly came to her aid.
Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with problems related to lupus and kidney failure.
Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but overall is doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with her health throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, debilitating fatigue, and constant stomach pain. Doctors offered various diagnoses, leaving her feeling confused and frustrated.
Because she grew up with a holistic approach to wellness and studied herbalism, Shailene sought answers from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for comfort and understanding took ten years.
The physical discomfort led to emotional struggles, including fear of food and issues with body image and identity. She described a challenging period of self-doubt and a search for inner peace.
Fortunately, after years of focusing on both her physical and mental wellbeing, Shailene is now healthy and doing well. She’s grateful to be able to say she’s fully recovered.
