Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is fist pumping over his latest milestone.
The reality TV star from Jersey Shore recently marked ten years of being sober. He shared a photo with his wife, Lauren Sorrentino, and their two children, 4-year-old Romeo and 2-year-old Mia, to celebrate the milestone.
Mike celebrated 10 years of sobriety on December 24th, sharing a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of a funfetti cake. He also mentioned his 21-month-old daughter, Luna, who he shares with Lauren, and added a hopeful message: ‘The comeback is always greater than the setback.’
In 2012, the reality TV star sought treatment for an issue with prescription medication, stating he was proactively taking charge of the situation. However, three years later, after being prescribed pain medication for broken ribs, his old difficulties resurfaced, leading him to begin his path to sobriety again that same year.
It all went downhill from there,” he explained to People magazine in 2017. “When your feelings are suppressed, it damages your relationships with everyone around you.”
Before the new season of Jersey Shore Family Vacation began, Mike said he felt prepared to demonstrate a healthy, sober lifestyle and be a positive role model.
In a 2018 interview with TopMob News, he explained that he’d been sober for 28 months and had been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Lauren, for over four years. He emphasized the importance of staying sober and faithful, even when facing attention from other women while out at clubs.
The 43-year-old wanted to demonstrate that you can still enjoy yourself and dance at a club without alcohol.
He admitted people might find it funny, but he explained he tested them to prove he stays more clear-headed than those who drink.
Mike and Lauren recently announced they’ve started a center dedicated to recovery and wellness, offering support for people dealing with addiction and mental health challenges.
In a recent Instagram post from December 27th, the couple shared a message of hope, writing that they understand the fear, shame, and sleepless nights that can come with difficult times. They emphasized that it’s never too late to begin a new chapter, as they found through their own recovery journey.

After the Backstreet Boys member relapsed in 2021, he noted he “got sober again for the last time.”
He told People magazine in July 2025 that he’s committed to staying on his current path. He explained it’s a daily effort, but he’s finally taken advice from the recovery community, and it’s dramatically improved his life.
While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.
I’ve recently learned to set personal boundaries, something I never did before, and it’s been really helpful. I also understand that ‘AJ’ is a public image, but it doesn’t represent the whole me. My real name is Alexander James, and that’s who I truly am.

In October 2018, the actor known for American Pie shared on Instagram that he had been sober for a year, marking the occasion with a positive and supportive message.
He shared that he first attempted to stop drinking and using drugs more than five years ago, when his addiction became overwhelming. He admitted it was a very difficult process.
I’m so incredibly happy to share that, after a tough journey, he’s celebrated a full year of sobriety! Honestly, it makes me so proud to see him achieving this, and he says it’s one of his proudest accomplishments. He wants anyone who’s going through a similar struggle to know that help is available, and that there’s absolutely no shame in reaching out. He truly believes we can all get through this together.
Looking back on his battle with addiction, he thought about how far he’d gone to keep it a secret.
He described a cycle where he’d go to therapy to address his issues, but then immediately after a productive session, he’d buy a bottle of vodka, drink it, and drive home. He explained on his wife Jenny Mollen’s podcast, All the Fails, that he knew how to drink enough to disconnect from his life and avoid facing his feelings.
He explained that he’d carefully planned how much he’d drink, wanting to stay clear-headed enough to talk to me. He mentioned he was constantly swapping out the alcohol bottles at the bar.

The two-time World Cup-winning soccer player has publicly discussed using Adderall inappropriately while recovering from injuries during her time playing college soccer.
She shared on the 2025 podcast Question Everything with Danielle Robay that she had become seriously addicted to Adderall and was using it in a dangerous way. She explained she was taking it constantly, often going days without sleep. It was a chaotic time, and she felt like she was pushing her body to the limit, even to the point of fearing a heart attack. She admitted to taking the drug by crushing and snorting it, acknowledging it was a very unhealthy pattern.
However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.
She described a difficult time where things became very challenging, and she had to adapt. Anson encouraged her to read, and she found a life-changing book called Man’s Search for Meaning. It helped her understand and cope with suffering by offering a new perspective.

In October 2025, Migos member Quavo revealed he had been sober from codeine—an opioid often mixed with soda to make “sizzurp”—for four years. He credited a serious conversation with his teenage son, Jordan, as the turning point that led him to get clean.
Offset shared a story on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer show about his son repeatedly asking for pineapple Fanta, even though he rarely drinks soda. What really struck Offset was when his son noticed the difference in the color of their drinks and asked why, which he found incredibly touching.
Offset explained that the seemingly harmless comment really upset him, adding, “I almost cried when I went back to my room.”
The rapper explained he felt guilty as a father. He was worried his son hadn’t realized there were drugs present and was especially troubled by small things, like his son wanting the same soda as him. It made him feel like he was a bad influence.

The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.
Jax revealed on the March 4th episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast that he’s struggling with addiction, specifically with cocaine. He admitted it was difficult to talk about.
He explained that he’s struggled with this issue intermittently since he was 23, and now, at 45, it continues to come and go. Sometimes he’d stop for a while, but other times he’d really focus on it.
Jax also stopped drinking, explaining that while he didn’t believe he had a serious alcohol issue, his drinking and drug use were connected. He couldn’t use cocaine without also drinking, so he decided to quit both. He’s proud to have been sober for over 82 days, which is the longest he’s ever stayed away from both substances.

I’ve been a big Tom Holland fan for years, and I was really struck by his honesty in a recent interview. He shared that he actually stopped drinking in 2022 because he felt like alcohol had too much control over his life – he used the word ‘enslaved,’ which was powerful. He was very open about the fact that he was, in his words, addicted, and he even suggested that if you’re having a beer every day, it’s probably a sign you might have a bit of a problem. It’s really inspiring to see him talk about this so candidly.
The actor explained that you eventually hit a point where you regret having that extra drink. Then, you wake up with a really bad headache the next day.
After adopting a healthier lifestyle, Holland found that he slept more soundly and was better equipped to deal with challenges.
He explained that he was much calmer and more able to handle problems on set. He felt mentally clear, healthier, and in better physical shape.

Sean Connery, famous for his role in Hunt for Red October, rarely discusses his decades-long journey with sobriety, which started nearly forty years ago.
He shared in a May 2024 podcast that he doesn’t often talk about his sobriety, only bringing it up when relevant. He’s been sober for 39 years, since February 23, 1985.
Alec described a difficult period following his move to Los Angeles in 1983, admitting to a severe cocaine addiction. He said he used a lot of cocaine for two years, comparing its prevalence at the time to people casually drinking coffee, and that it was common among his social circle.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
He finds New York City incredibly calming. He loves simply walking around and discovering new details he’s never seen before – noticing things like unique features on buildings he’s passed countless times. He also cherishes spending time with friends over lunch or coffee.

Okay, so Anne Hathaway revealed in April 2024 that she’s been sober for over five years, and honestly, I’m SO proud of her! She told the New York Times it feels like a huge accomplishment, and it totally is! It just makes me love her even more, if that’s possible. It’s amazing to see her thriving and sharing this – it’s a real milestone!
She explained her decision simply. “I realized I wasn’t interested,” she said. “It felt strange to have to explain that I wanted absolutely none of it. It was like being allergic to something – if you have a serious reaction, you don’t try to fight it. So I just accepted how I felt and stopped questioning it.”
She’s glad she made the change. “It’s made a real difference in my life,” she explained. “It used to drag me down, and I just don’t want to feel that way anymore.”

While receiving the 2018 Woman of the Year Award from the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House – a program helping women recover from addiction – Moore discussed how a period of self-destructive behavior almost ended her career.
I believe we all have key moments that shape our lives and future. Early in my career, I was heading down a very destructive path. Despite any success I achieved, I constantly felt inadequate and had little self-worth. This quickly led to a crisis, and at the time, I didn’t understand why it was happening – it almost felt like something bigger was intervening.
In 2012, seeking help, Moore expressed gratitude to two strangers who strongly encouraged her to change her life. She joked that they essentially told her she needed to get help or face the consequences, adding that they gave her an opportunity to turn things around before she ruined everything.
Moore reflected that others recognized potential in her that she hadn’t seen in herself. She expressed deep gratitude for their belief in her, saying she wouldn’t be where she was today without their support.

As someone who’s spent years helping people find healthier routines, I really connected with what Miley Cyrus shared recently. She’s been openly working on overcoming her Xanax addiction since 2020, and what struck me was how she described recovery giving her much-needed structure and, crucially, hope. She told Rolling Stone that it wasn’t just about stopping something, but about building a positive framework when she really needed one – a sentiment I often emphasize with my clients.
The singer explained that once they discovered a way to briefly shut out feelings and escape the pain, it signaled the end of something.
She explained that her friends at the time didn’t discourage her drug use, and it quickly spiraled out of control, becoming a never-ending cycle. During the pandemic, she realized she was struggling and felt disconnected from her emotions. She remembers being constantly drowsy and falling asleep, unable to stay awake or keep her eyes open because of how deeply affected she was.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

In his 2025 documentary, Stans, Eminem opened up about his past struggles with prescription pills. He shared that an overdose and missing his daughter Hailie Jade’s birthday were turning points that led him to change his life.
Honestly, hearing him talk about it just wrecked me. He said he actually cried because he realized how much he’d been missing out on. It was like a wake-up call, and he kept drilling it into his own head – ‘Don’t you dare miss this again! Don’t let everything slip away!’ He even got brutally honest with himself, telling himself he’d be pathetic if he didn’t push through, not just for his own sake, but for the people who believed in him. It was so raw and real, and it completely got to me.
Focusing on making music again proved to be a key part of the Oscar winner’s recovery from addiction.
You know, it’s amazing how little moments can shift your whole perspective. I remember this one time, something simple happened – a light turned on – and it just clicked for me. I suddenly realized I wasn’t ashamed of being sober anymore. It was a total game-changer! I started to see my sobriety as a strength, something to be proud of. It wasn’t about giving something up, it was about gaining control and feeling genuinely good about the choices I was making. It really did feel like unlocking a superpower, honestly.

The actor, known for their role in Parenthood, had been sober for 16 years when they experienced a relapse in 2020. This happened after a motorcycle accident led them to take Vicodin.
He explained on his Armchair Expert podcast that he’s been taking prescription medications consistently for about the past two months, and is also taking additional doses beyond what’s prescribed.
He went on to say he hated what was happening, and that he was deceiving those around him. He knew he needed to stop, but his tolerance was increasing so fast that he was now using eight pills a day. He was terrified because he knew stopping would cause severe withdrawal symptoms, and he felt incredibly isolated, burdened by a huge secret.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in being open about personal journeys, and Jamie Lee Curtis recently shared a really brave one. She revealed that she struggled with opioid addiction for a decade, starting in the late 80s. It actually began after a relatively minor cosmetic procedure – she had surgery to address some hereditary puffiness around her eyes. That surgery led to a prescription, and unfortunately, it spiraled into a ten-year battle with addiction. She told People magazine it was a very isolating experience, filled with secrecy and desperate measures. She was stealing and deceiving people, and incredibly, no one around her had any idea what she was going through.
Curtis recalls the summer of 1998 as her lowest point. Her sister came to visit and brought pain medication for a broken rib, and Curtis ended up taking all of it. Remembering the event, she explained that she knew her sister would discover the missing pills before leaving. She confessed in a note left on the suitcase. When her sister left, she hugged Curtis, telling her she loved her and was worried about her self-destructive behavior, and didn’t want to see her ruin her life.
Jamie Lee Curtis went to her first support group meeting on February 3, 1999, and that same day, she told her husband, filmmaker Christopher Guest, about her past struggles with addiction. She explained that he was surprised he hadn’t realized she was going through this, and she has remained sober ever since.

Drew Barrymore, who has openly struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past, revealed in 2021 that she had reached a significant point in her recovery. Appearing on CBS Mornings, she shared that she’d been sober for two and a half years, explaining that alcohol simply wasn’t beneficial to her life.
It’s amazing how freeing it feels to finally share who we are, what we believe, and everything we’ve achieved – even though it can also feel a little scary and open.
Drew Barrymore later told the Los Angeles Times she avoids calling herself “sober” because she doesn’t want to be seen as overly strict or judgmental.
She explained that she used to tell herself, ‘I can learn this, I can solve this.’ But eventually, she came to the realization that it wasn’t something she’d ever truly be able to master.

Bradley Cooper battled a cocaine addiction in the early 2000s. His friend, Will Arnett, helped him by directly addressing the issue and confronting him about his struggles.
Cooper shared in a 2022 podcast interview that it was the first moment he understood he was struggling with substance use, a realization he says he’ll never forget.
Cooper said Arnett was instrumental in his decision to get sober, explaining that Arnett bravely confronted him, which ultimately led Cooper to change his life for the better.

The actor, known for his role in Fight Club, battled alcohol addiction for years. He credits Bradley Cooper with helping him get sober. Accepting an award from Cooper at the 2020 National Board of Review Awards, he shared, “I wouldn’t be sober if it wasn’t for this guy,” and added that he’s been happier every day since.

In September 2023, the former Cruel Intentions star revealed on Instagram that they hadn’t used nicotine or marijuana – or any other substances – for the longest time since their teenage years.
He expressed gratitude for overcoming addiction and substance dependency, saying that achieving sobriety brings a sense of clarity and a deeper spiritual connection, which feels truly good.

In 2018, the singer celebrated six years of being sober while on tour. However, she surprised her fans later that year with the release of her song “Sober,” in which she admitted she had struggled with relapse.
Honestly, it’s heartbreaking to admit, but I’ve fallen off the wagon. I was singing, pouring out my feelings, apologizing to my parents for letting my struggles with alcohol resurface, and acknowledging those who have stuck by me through it all. It’s a familiar cycle, and I’m truly sorry for the pain it causes. I’m being real about my journey, and it’s not easy, but it’s important to me to be honest about where I am.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
I’ve always been open about my struggles with addiction, and I wanted to share what I’ve realized: this isn’t something that just goes away. It’s a constant battle, and honestly, I’m still fighting it. Right now, I really need to focus on getting better and staying sober, so I’m taking some time to heal. I’m so grateful for all the love and support everyone has shown me – it means the world. I’m holding onto hope for the day I can look back and say I’ve truly overcome this, and I promise I won’t give up.

In 2018, she spoke about her past struggles with sex and alcohol addiction. She explained that her addictions tended to shift over time, and when she was younger, she believed sex could solve any problem. She then described realizing she had developed a serious issue with drinking.
She recalled a particularly low point when she was home alone and had already finished two bottles of wine, and was about to open a third. That’s when she realized she might have a drinking problem.
I stopped completely, which I’m actually good at doing. I tend to get really fixated on things and fall into patterns, so I always have to be careful. It’s not necessarily what someone is doing, but why and how they approach it. For example, enjoying a lot of sex is fine, but it’s important to understand the reasons behind that behavior.

Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean revealed he first experimented with drugs before shooting the music video for their 2000 hit, “The Call.” He later told Good Morning America that he was extremely out of control during the video shoot. He achieved sobriety in 2021, and within a year, experienced significant improvements to his health, including losing 32 pounds in seven months by giving up alcohol and fast food.
He told Today in September 2022 that drinking led to both weight gain and a worsening of his mental health.

Following the unexpected death of Mac Miller, rapper Bow Wow—born Shad Moss—revealed on Twitter that he had previously battled an addiction to cough syrup, often called “lean.” He shared a series of tweets detailing his struggle, explaining that while working on the ‘Face Off’ album with Omarion, he was using lean daily. He admitted to being high on the substance during a memorable on-stage moment with Torae on BET, and that it negatively impacted his behavior, relationships with fans and family. He emphasized that he never glorified drug use in his music. Bow Wow recounted being addicted throughout the UCP tour with Chris Brown, consuming lean at least seven times a day until a show in Cincinnati where he collapsed backstage and was hospitalized due to withdrawal symptoms. He described the pain as unlike anything he’d ever experienced, and detailed how it caused him to feel constantly cold and miss shows in Chicago and Baltimore. He urged young people to avoid drugs, emphasizing the importance of being a good son or daughter and striving to be their best selves. He vowed to speak out more about the dangers of drug use, and called on parents to educate their children. Bow Wow shared that he still suffers from stomach problems as a result of his addiction, and concluded by urging fans to break the cycle of drug use and prioritize their health, stating, “Drug-free is the way to be.”

In 2018, the singer publicly shared her struggles with addiction alongside the release of her album No Shame and her memoir, My Thoughts Exactly. She revealed she had been using cocaine and drinking heavily, describing herself as constantly intoxicated. Things came to a head when, after accidentally hitting Orlando Bloom with her head at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party and losing consciousness, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin organized an intervention to help her.
In an interview with The Guardian, she described feeling deeply unfulfilled. She recalled a particularly low point, saying she even considered trying heroin because nothing else seemed to alleviate her unhappiness.

The actor known for The Parent Trap struggled with cocaine addiction during the 1980s, eventually entering rehab in 1990. He later shared on Today that he came of age in the 1960s and 70s, a time when attitudes toward drug use were very different.
He confessed that in the 1980s, his cocaine use was so extensive it rivaled some movie budgets. He described desperately pleading with God to help him stop, often right before work, only to find himself using again by the afternoon. He’d think things were under control for a short while, but the cycle would continue.
He described a powerful experience – what he called seeing a white light – where he felt he was either dying or about to lose everything important in his life. He then had to explain this to his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and afterwards, he decided to get help. This, he said, marked the end of his struggle with cocaine.

Following an incident at a Newport Beach hotel where he attempted to damage his door, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte began treatment for alcohol addiction in 2018. His representative told TopMob News that Lochte had been struggling with addiction for years, leading to harmful behaviors. Lochte has admitted he needs professional help and is starting treatment right away.
According to a statement, Ryan understands that overcoming this illness is crucial not only for his future well-being and relationships with his family, but also for his ambition to compete at his fifth Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 and regain his position as a top swimmer.

Despite knowing you shouldn’t get sober for another person, actor Jason Ritter credits his relationship with Melanie Lynskey as a significant factor in his decision to stop drinking.
He realized how wonderful she was and believed she deserved someone truly special. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he admitted he didn’t feel up to the task, saying he was ‘a little bit too crazy’ for her.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
He remembered that in the beginning of their relationship, it felt simpler to justify his actions by saying he was doing them for her. He admitted he didn’t value his own well-being much then, and was more concerned with avoiding her pain than his own. So, claiming he was acting for her sake was a way to cope. Now, he’s finally prioritizing his own needs and doing things for himself.

Oh my gosh, you won’t believe his story. It’s just… heartbreaking and inspiring all at once. He’s been sober for almost ten years now, which is amazing, but getting there? It was a total battle. It started right after high school, and even when he started becoming famous, it just got worse. He actually told People magazine that he carried this black leather laptop bag everywhere – and it wasn’t filled with a laptop! It was full of Jagermeister or vodka, always within reach. He said he’d literally drink from it every hour and a half to two hours, just a few good swigs, and then every three or four hours, he’d need a couple of pills. Can you imagine? It’s just… wow. I’m so proud of him for fighting it.
Despite his health issues, it didn’t hinder his work. “I wasn’t falling apart,” he explained. “I was actually more productive then – writing more songs than I do today. That’s what really worried me.”
In late 2011, he ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis and received a stark warning: unless he quit drinking, he likely wouldn’t live to see his next birthday. He admitted he kept delaying the inevitable, trying to cut back himself. “I’d tell myself, ‘Okay, just two pills today, and I’ll only drink this much from the bottle,’ and I’d mark the bottle to keep track,” he remembered. “It would work for a couple of days, but then someone would have a party and I’d start again.”
Honestly, it broke my heart to hear he finally admitted he needed help. December 18th, 2011… that was the day he checked into rehab. He said himself he just knew he couldn’t fight it alone anymore. Can you imagine? He’s always been such a strong person, so to hear him say it just… infuriated and embarrassed him. He kept trying to beat it, but it was the one thing he couldn’t make stick. It just gutted me, but I was also so proud of him for finally getting the help he deserved.
