Mike Vrabel is hoping he can finally push this drama into the end zone.
The New England Patriots coach spoke about how he’s handled the reaction to photos showing him with reporter Dianna Russini of The Athletic. He explained that he’s discussed the situation with both his friends and colleagues.
Coach Vrabel recently shared that he’s had tough but helpful talks with those closest to him – his family, the team, and fellow coaches and players. He emphasized that making good choices is key to success both in football and in life, and that responsibility starts with him personally.
The man, age 50, said he was sorry if his actions had bothered the team or created unwanted attention. He added that he wouldn’t be sharing details about any private discussions he’d had.
He expressed his strong passion for the team and his enthusiasm for coaching them. He also plans to approach each day with both humility and a determined focus.
Before ending the conversation, Vrabel reaffirmed his dedication to his players, his family, and the New England Patriots fanbase.
He assured everyone that he would give his absolute best moving forward, not just to the organization and team, but to his family, the staff, the coaches, and, most importantly, the fans. He’s confident he can deliver that and is looking forward to the challenge.
Following the release of photos showing Vrabel and Russini with each other on April 7th, both publicly stated the photos didn’t depict anything inappropriate, despite both being married to other people.

Vrabel stated in a statement to Page Six that the photos clearly show a harmless interaction and any claim to the contrary is ridiculous. He doesn’t plan to comment on the matter any further.
Russini mentioned to the news organization that she and the athlete were with six other people, and that reporters frequently meet with sources outside of official event locations. However, she left her position at The Athletic less than a week afterward.
In a letter to Athletic Executive Editor Steven Ginsberg, obtained by The Associated Press, she stated she has always reported on the NFL with professionalism and stands by all of her work. She also expressed concern that media commentators have been spreading inaccurate speculation.
Despite appreciating the consistent support from The Athletic, she stated she was resigning.

The intense media attention is moving too quickly, ignoring the careful review process The Athletic is still working on. The situation is getting worse because of ongoing leaks, and I won’t participate in a public investigation that has already caused significant harm. Instead of letting this continue, I’ve decided to resign before my contract ends on June 30th.
She explained that she wasn’t agreeing with the way this situation had been portrayed, but she didn’t want to give it any more attention or let it impact her reputation or future work.
Meanwhile, Vrabel’s role in the NFL remains unchanged.
According to NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy, the league’s code of conduct expects coaches to avoid actions that could harm the NFL’s reputation or public trust. Because of this, the NFL will not be investigating the behavior of coach Vrabel.
