Miley Cyrus Shares Why Maxx Morando Engagement “Astounded” Her

Miley Cyrus isn’t going to let anyone take a wrecking ball to her privacy.

Miley Cyrus has spoken out about her engagement to Maxx Morando, which was confirmed on December 2nd after four years together. She expressed her surprise that they’ve managed to keep most of the details private.

Miley recently told People magazine that she’s surprised she’s been able to maintain her privacy, especially considering her fame, and that this privacy has given her more control over her life.

At 33, she believes her age helps her establish healthy boundaries in her relationship with 27-year-old Maxx. She explained that she’s more careful about what she chooses to share, simply because she’s older and more aware of her needs.

I’ve been so impressed watching Miley’s journey. After everything she went through – finalizing her divorce from Liam Hemsworth in 2020, especially so soon after losing their home in the Malibu fires – seeing her meet Maxx in 2021 and fall in love felt like a real turning point. It showed everyone, and honestly, it showed me, that she truly has the strength to start fresh and rebuild her life, and that’s something I really admire.

Okay, so Miley was talking about losing her house in the fires, and it was SO much more than just the house, you know? She said, and I’m quoting because her words were just so powerful, that she literally went through the ashes and rebuilt everything – her whole life, both inside and out, with her own two hands. It was incredible to hear her talk about it. Like, she didn’t just rebuild a house, she rebuilt herself.

The Grammy-winning artist believes her relationship with Maxx will last because they don’t take life too seriously, she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2024.

Plus, Maxx’s astrological sign doesn’t hurt either. 

Miley explained on her podcast, Sorry We’re Cyrus, that her boyfriend, Maxx, is a Scorpio, just like his grandfather. She thinks this makes him uniquely cool, joking that Scorpios seem like sweethearts until they show their sharp side – their ‘sting’.

She added, “I couldn’t be with someone [who] doesn’t sting—they would have been toast already.”

Miley Cyrus started dating musician Maxx Morando in 2021. She told British Vogue in 2023 that they were set up on a blind date – though it wasn’t exactly blind for Maxx. Miley said she went into the date thinking, “At least I can leave if it’s terrible.”

Miley stayed, and as their relationship grew, they made their red carpet debut together at the Gucci Love Parade on November 2, 2021.

Miley and Maxx, who is a drummer in the band Liily, enjoyed a night out seeing Chicago on Broadway.

Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend attended the Versace fashion show in West Hollywood on March 9, 2023.

Maxx supported Miley when she won her first Grammy at the 2024 awards show. They shared a kiss during the event, and Miley lovingly called him “my love” while accepting the award.

Miley and her partner made another public appearance together at the Grammy Awards in 2025. In a November 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Miley shared, “He’s a lot like me—we both prefer not to overthink things.”

I was so excited to see Maxx, who’s six years younger than Miley Cyrus, join her at the SNL 50th anniversary special! It was amazing to see them both celebrating 50 years of Saturday Night Live on the red carpet.

The musicians got glammed up for a big night out at the 2025 Oscars ceremony.

Later that evening, they debuted new outfits at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
