With the new Supergirl movie coming out later this month, actress Milly Alcock has shared that her Supergirl cape has a special link to a legendary Superman.
In a recent interview with Raiders of the Lost Pod, actress Alcock shared a fascinating detail about her Supergirl costume: her cape was made from leftover fabric originally used to create Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman cape. The production team discovered extra material from the original costume’s creation, and almost 50 years after Reeve first portrayed Superman, it’s now part of Alcock’s cape.
Alcock revealed her cape in the film was made from pieces of the original Superman cape. When asked if she meant the one worn by Christopher Reeve, she confirmed that extra fabric from the original production had been used to create hers.
She explained that they discovered about 16 meters of the material, and it’s now stored at the back of her property.

It’s fascinating that a piece of the original Supergirl costume actually appeared in the new Superman movie – specifically, fabric from the suit was used for Kara’s cape. During a set visit, ComicBook discovered that Jason Momoa, who plays Lobo, specifically requested a vape cigar be included with his costume. While this request isn’t as significant or sentimental as the nod to Reeve’s cape, it still highlights the filmmakers’ dedication to the project. Supergirl’s cape, and Momoa’s request, demonstrate the DCU’s respect for DC’s history while simultaneously building new stories for the future.
