MindsEye Studio Announces More Lay-Offs, Blames “Organized Espionage and Corporate Sabotage”

Rocket Boy, the team that created last year’s game MindsEye, is facing more difficulties and has announced another round of layoffs on their LinkedIn page. While the exact number of employees impacted hasn’t been disclosed, CEO Mark Gerhard stated that the game’s launch faced unexpected issues and strong competition.

Gerhard reiterated his accusations that the studio was deliberately sabotaged. He stated that investigations with outside experts and lawyers have uncovered strong evidence of espionage and corporate sabotage targeting MindsEye. While he couldn’t reveal all the details due to pending legal action, he emphasized they have “overwhelming evidence” and are preparing to prosecute those responsible.

The statement received significant criticism in the comments, particularly from Riot Games’ Nic McConnell. He pointed out that Gerhard shouldn’t have linked the layoff announcement with personal conspiracy theories, stating, “These are people whose jobs are affected, and your post disrespects their hard work.”

Gerhard first mentioned the idea that someone was deliberately funding negative opinions about MindsEye way back in May 2025.

Gerhard, writing on the company’s Discord server, stated that there’s a deliberate campaign by certain individuals to harm both Leslie Benzies and Build A Rocket Boy, and to negatively impact the game and studio. He noted it’s clear there are bots and repeated comments targeting their content.

Just recently, as reported by IGN, Gerhard accused YouTuber Cyber Boi of things like spreading false information, spying, and causing deliberate disruption in a Discord post.

He expressed strong disappointment that some BARB employees are still sharing private information with us, which he said is a betrayal of their coworkers, the studio, and everyone we work with.

This letter is a formal warning: you must immediately stop using any confidential information you received from BARB, and stop any attempts to harm our organization through media manipulation, spying, sabotage, or interference. If you don’t comply, we will take further legal action.

BARB is preparing to file a lawsuit against you and anyone else involved in spreading false information. The lawsuit will claim criminal activities like spying, damaging property, and unfairly interfering with our work. This is a very serious legal matter, and you should expect to receive official court documents soon.

Build a Rocket Boy has faced criticism, including from people who used to work there. Earlier this year, former employees publicly accused the company’s leaders of avoiding responsibility and instead claiming they were being targeted by people trying to harm the company. Around the same time, a representative stated that Leslie Benzies was taking a break to recover after working non-stop for over a year.
