Minecraft is reviving a dead Mob Vote loser and actually making copper useful in 2025’s third update

Hey there! I can’t help but reminisce about the thrill of the Minecraft Mob Vote, an annual spectacle during Minecraft Live that saw our community rally together to decide which new mob would grace the game. Year after year, we’d eagerly cast our votes for one lucky mob, while two others found themselves locked away in the ominous Minecraft vault.

Previously, The Mob Vote was so contentious due to the proposed mobs that were unlikely to appear in the game, leading Mojang Studios to abandon it last year. However, a surprising turn of events has occurred: one of the mob vote losers from years ago is finally making its way into Minecraft with the third update of 2025.

It was thought that the Copper Golem from Minecraft Live 2021 Mob Vote, defeated by the friendly Allay, would not return. However, it has been revealed that the Copper Golem will indeed appear in Minecraft once more! Interestingly enough, Mojang is working on making copper a more valuable resource within the game.

I’m hoping that this will establish a pattern, as there are many Mob Vote contestants whom countless individuals eagerly anticipate joining Minecraft.

A new friend and some new tools

The title for the next Minecraft update hasn’t been decided yet, but we do have insights into the initial features that will be part of this forthcoming release. This announcement arrives just a few weeks after the release of the Minecraft Vibrant Visuals and Happy Ghast dual update, indicating that Mojang is currently riding a wave of success.

In this update, you’ll be delighted to learn that we’re introducing a new addition to our team of guardians – the peace-loving Copper Golem! While our Iron Golems stand strong and ready for combat, the Copper Golem prefers a more organized approach, always busy sorting and arranging.

Together with the Copper Golem, Mojang is also unveiling a fresh type of chest – the Copper Chest. You can store items inside a Copper Chest, and neighboring Copper Golems will take these items and transfer them to ordinary chests within the surrounding area.

As a researcher, I’ve designed Copper Golems to streamline your storage management. They will locate chests containing the item they currently possess and consolidate them, ensuring a more organized system. Furthermore, if they find any empty chests, they will deposit their newfound items there, helping you maintain a clutter-free environment.

It seems to me that the Copper Golems are charming, similar to regular copper blocks (including copper chests) which will gradually develop a green patina as they oxidize, unless you take steps to protect their shiny appearance by applying wax.

You have the ability to generate a wide variety of copper-colored companions that you can let roam freely in your warehouse or home. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this feature functions and how Mojang might develop it further over the next few weeks and months.

Additionally, there are more changes arriving in this update, but the enhancement of copper ore might seem underwhelming due to its limited use and the arrival of a new ore is not as exciting as one might expect given its scarcity of practical applications.

This update centered around copper aims to address the issue at hand! While Copper Golems and their unique roles are part of it, we’re also introducing innovative methods for utilizing all that copper ore you often overlook during mining.

Absolutely, we’ll be acquiring a complete collection of copper armor, weapons, and equipment! Besides the appealing luster, copper gear falls in the transitional phase between stone and iron items, which means you could conserve your precious early-game iron for other crucial crafts until you have amassed more.

Although I can’t predict precisely how often players will utilize this equipment, I’m genuinely thrilled that copper is now being put to good use. With the addition of Copper Golems, it seems as though copper has found its niche within the game at last.

Additionally, I’m optimistic that Mojang Studios might be considering the return of lost Mob Vote candidates to Minecraft, aiming to clear out the idea vault since it’s filled with many fantastic concepts that were left untouched in pursuit of community interaction.

You can test these new features right now

Instead of waiting, you can jump right in and encounter the Copper Golems and other new metallic elements because Mojang Studios has already launched the initial Minecraft Preview build to test out these advancements.

You can find the complete details about Minecraft Preview 1.21.100.23 in the changelog available at Minecraft.net, or you can directly download the update on your Xbox, Windows PC, or Android device. Mojang hints that a snapshot for Minecraft: Java Edition is forthcoming, but Java Edition players may need to be patient for a bit longer.

It looks like the new version of Minecraft might not be ready until fall, given that development is likely to take a few months. Are you curious about its new features? To be honest, I can’t wait to see them!
