Minecraft’s Copper Age is here: Explore new features and the whimsical Copper Golem

Minecraft has a brand new update available for players on both Bedrock and Java Edition! It’s called the Copper Age and brings a lot of exciting changes.

According to the official Minecraft website:

Get ready for a new era in Minecraft – The Copper Age! Now you can use copper to craft all sorts of useful items, from tools and armor to lights and decorations. You can even build amazing copper golems! Whether you prefer the bright shine of new copper or the weathered look of oxidation, this update unlocks tons of creative possibilities. Discover the power of copper in Minecraft today!

New chests that can be sorted without mods?! Are you kidding me? This is awesome!

I’m excited to play either version, as long as I can find some friends to join me. I especially prefer Bedrock because it’s nice to play a simpler version without the hassle of needing to use a huge, complicated modpack on someone else’s server.

I spent about fifteen years doing that, and honestly, sometimes I just want to experience the game as the developers intended.

Some highlights include, but are not limited to:

Copper Golem

  • The Copper Golem is a new mob that can be spawned by placing a Jack o’Lantern or Carved Pumpkin on top of a Copper block.
  • Copper Golems oxidize over time and can be waxed like Copper blocks.
  • If the Copper Golem is fully oxidized and not waxed, it will turn into a Copper Golem Statue.
  • Copper Golems can help with sorting items into Chests.

Basically, remember to wax your golems – it helps them work their best! I’m excited to start reminding everyone on the server to do that.

New Copper Decorations:

  • Copper Torch
  • Copper Bars
  • Copper Chain
  • Copper Lantern

I think it’s really neat that all the items in the game will rust and change over time. While *Terraria* and *Hobo: Tough Life* were the first games to include something like this, I’m a big fan of the feature in this game too.

I initially planned to play the game without any modifications, but I’ve gotten distracted thinking about creating a mod where golems can automatically wax themselves to prevent rusting. I’m honestly surprised I even came up with that idea!

The Copper Age update includes many new items and features, such as enchanting and item durability, along with a variety of other improvements.

I’ve been thinking about other things to test. It would be really neat if copper doors made different sounds when opening and closing depending on how weathered they are. We could even extend that to *all* moving copper blocks in the update!

Picture a rusty, copper robot slowly walking around, making groaning sounds as it corrodes. I’m not sure if something like that already exists in the game, as I’ve been focused on writing about the recent update and haven’t had time to look.

I’m curious to see if my golems can be revived with wax after they’ve turned to stone through oxidation. If waxing doesn’t work, I’m going to have to ask my wife to take on the task of keeping them clean – and she insists she loves keeping things tidy anyway, so hopefully she won’t mind!
