Miss Austen’s future is finally confirmed and The Other Bennet Sister unveils first-look clip on Jane Austen’s birthday

Jane Austen lovers have something to look forward to! A sneak peek at “The Other Bennet Sister” has been released, and we’ve also learned what happened with “Miss Austen,” which premiered earlier this year.

Keeley Hawes starred as Cassandra Austen in the popular series, and PBS has announced they are developing a second season.

The show explored the life of the famous novelist, looking at her family and, especially, her close relationship with her sister Cassandra.

The story centers on the close bond between the sisters, and finally reveals the truth behind Cassandra’s controversial decision to burn her sister’s letters – a mystery people have wondered about for years.

The show is adapted from Gill Hornby’s novel, and the upcoming second season will primarily draw inspiration from her more recent book, The Elopement. This novel is set in 1820 and tells the story of Mary Dorothea Knatchbull, who was the niece of Jane Austen’s niece, Fanny Knight.

I’m really excited to hear Andrea Gibb is writing the second season – she did such a great job with the first! As for who will be starring, though, that’s still a mystery. Apparently, the new season will follow a different character’s story, so it’s unclear if we’ll be seeing Keeley Hawes back as the lead. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Susanne Simpson, a producer for Masterpiece, expressed her excitement about season two, building on the success of the first series. She’s happy to be collaborating again with author Gill Hornby and the talented team of Andrea Gibb and Christine Langan, who created the first season. The announcement comes as they prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth.

Producer Christine Langan shared that this continuation of the ‘Miss Austen’ story, inspired by another fantastic novel by Gill Hornby, explores the personal lives of the Austen family in more detail. The series blends love, heartbreak, and humor, offering a new perspective on Jane Austen’s world with a mix of beloved and original characters.

Fans of Pride and Prejudice have a new story to look forward to in the new year: The Other Bennet Sister. This series will center on Mary Bennet, the often-forgotten middle sister.

I just saw the first teaser for the series and it’s so funny! It looks like the whole Bennet family is in a tizzy because Mary might need glasses. We finally get to see the cast in action, and I’m really excited – Ella Bruccoleri from Call the Midwife is playing a lead role, and Ruth Jones (from Gavin and Stacey) and Richard E Grant are fantastic as Mr. and Mrs. Bennet!

Maddie Close, known for her role in Sunflower Child, plays Jane Bennet. Poppy Gilbert (Chloe), Molly Wright (The A Word), and Grace Hogg-Robinson (The Coroner) portray Lizzie, Kitty, and Lydia respectively.

Okay, so “The Other Bennet Sister” kicks off at the Bennet family’s home, Longbourn. It’s a bustling place with Mr. and Mrs. Bennet trying to manage their five daughters – Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia – who are all unmarried. Basically, the movie follows these sisters as they try to find their way in Regency England, where getting married isn’t just something they want, it’s pretty much a necessity to secure their future. It’s all about navigating that complicated social scene and the pressures that come with it.

Unlike her sisters who focus on finding husbands and succeeding in society, Mary chooses a different route. She leaves her family home, Longbourn, to live with her aunt and uncle, the Gardiners, in their stylish London house. This move allows Mary to begin a personal journey, where she starts to develop her own identity and take control of her life.
