A woman who was abducted as a toddler 25 years ago has been found.

Andrea Michelle Reyes, aged 23 months, went missing in 1999, New Haven, Connecticut. After years passed, thanks to advancements in DNA technology, the cold case was reopened and at the age of 27, she has been found, police confirmed on March 5.

Authorities suspect that Reyes’ mom kidnapped her and took her to Mexico.

In October 1999, the New Haven Police Department looked into the case of Andrea Reyes, who was believed to have been kidnapped from the city by her mother, Rosa Tenorio, according to a statement released. At that time, Andrea was under the care of her father, and it should be noted that Rosa did not hold custody of her.

According to the police department, they collaborated with the FBI to issue an arrest warrant for felony charges against Tenorio. It was initially believed that she had fled with Andrea to Mexico.

23-month-old Andrea Michelle Reyes went missing in New Haven, Connecticut, back in 1999. However, with advancements in DNA technology, she has been located at the age of 27. This is partly due to the allegations that her mother, Rosa Tenorio, took her and left the country, as stated by authorities.

On March 5th, according to the New Haven Police Department, investigators found Andrea in Puebla, a city located in central Mexico. This was possible due to a Missing Persons unit specializing in cold cases being reactivated for Andrea’s case in 2023.

Through interviews, search warrants, social media investigations, and other means, the detective concluded that Andrea, who lived primarily with her father and had never been under her mother’s custody when she went missing, was allegedly taken to Mexico by Rosa and currently residing in Puebla, a bustling city with over a million inhabitants, according to the police.

Through collaboration with DNA testing firm Othram, the detective successfully reached out to Andrea, enabling them to confirm a familial bond – specifically, a father-daughter relationship. This groundbreaking discovery resulted in Andrea reconnecting with her father after more than two decades apart, as reported by officials.

Andra’s paternity remains a mystery, as the authorities have granted his wish for privacy by keeping his name confidential.

Prior to the investigation losing momentum, it was stated that Reyes’ father had no communication with Rosa or his daughter, even though he personally traveled to Mexico multiple times in search of her.

In my pursuit of finding answers regarding my beloved daughter who had gone missing, I personally made numerous trips to Mexico, yet there was no communication nor contact between me and Rosa, or my daughter, as the authorities shared. The case remained unsolved before it eventually grew cold.

In 2009, a warrant for custody interference, considered a serious crime, was officially issued against Andrea’s mother by the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The active arrest warrant for Rosa Tenorio can only be enforced inside the United States, according to the New Haven Police Department’s statement. It appears she may still be living in Mexico.
