MLB’s Alex Vesia Details Grieving His Newborn Baby With Wife Kayla

Alex Vesia is keeping his late daughter close to his heart.

Los Angeles Dodgers player spoke publicly for the first time about the loss of his and his wife Kayla Vesia’s newborn son, Sterling Sol Vesia, who passed away three months ago, and shared how they are dealing with their grief.

During a press conference on February 13th, the 29-year-old shared, “This experience has taught us that life can change in an instant. Just ten minutes was all it took. Our daughter, Sterling Sol, was a beautiful and precious gift. We cherished every moment we had with her – holding her, caring for her, and loving her. Though our time together was tragically short, Kay and I will hold onto those special memories forever.”

He expressed hope that people would understand and respect their need for privacy while they heal and deal with the challenges of the baseball season.

Alex shared that he and his wife, Kayla, who got married in January 2025, began therapy around six weeks ago as part of their healing journey.

He admitted it’s been a tough time, but speaking with someone really helped. He discovered many other families have gone through similar experiences, which made him feel more connected to others and appreciate the support of their community.

Dodgers relief pitcher Alex took a break from baseball in late October, just before the World Series. He said it was hard to leave his teammates, who he considers like family, but he needed to be there for his own family. They still followed the World Series closely, and watching the games brought them comfort during a difficult time.

While he was away, the Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays honored him by wearing his number 51 on their hats. Alex expressed his gratitude for this touching gesture, saying it meant a lot to him and his wife, Kayla, and brought them both to tears.

We were incredibly moved, and it was clear how strong the connections are within the baseball community. It really highlighted that baseball is about so much more than just the game itself.

I was so touched when he thanked all of us fans around the world! And the Rams? They sent him a jersey signed by the whole team – it was such a thoughtful gesture, and you could tell how much it meant to him.

He shared that the incredible amount of love and support Kay and he have received recently has been overwhelming. He explained that his Instagram messages and comments are flooded with kind words, and he’s been trying to read them all because it means so much to him.

Besides finding support in those messages, Alex has also been using baseball to help him through a difficult time. He went to Arizona in early November to begin training.

I went right back to the gym and started working on my throwing again. It’s been great to have something positive to focus on, and the gym has really helped me clear my head. It’s also been wonderful being back with the team, getting ready for spring training. Everyone in the clubhouse has been really supportive, and being able to share some laughs with them has been a huge boost for me.

Even though the baseball player is still grieving, he highlighted how helpful therapy has been and urged others going through similar experiences to consider getting help as he and his wife, Kayla, did.

Kayla and Alex Vesia confirmed their relationship on Instagram in April 2019. Kayla playfully announced it with a post saying, “GAME OVER (literally & metaphorically).”

When Alex started playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, Kayla and his parents consistently showed their strong support by cheering him on from the stands.

A year before he popped the question, Alex celebrated a huge milestone for the couple. 

He celebrated their three-year anniversary in April 2022 with a sweet message, saying how quickly the time had flown by. He expressed his love and happiness, saying she makes him incredibly happy and that he loves her very much.

The couple spent the 2023 holiday season looking forward to their wedding. Alex playfully posted at the time, “Merry Christmas from the future Vesias!!”

I was so thrilled when I heard they got married in January 2024, and even more excited to learn they celebrated as newlyweds with a trip to Mexico! It sounds like the perfect getaway for them.

Things are going well for the couple, who marked their first wedding anniversary with a hot air balloon ride in January 2025.

Kayla and Alex recently enjoyed a date night, and Alex shared a sweet photo of Kayla’s baby bump on Instagram, writing that spending the evening with his wife was ‘amazing’.

Once the Dodgers secured their place in the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Kayla publicly congratulated her partner with a celebratory post saying, “& NOW… ONTO THE WORLD SERIES.”
