A recent, extensive report shows that video games are having trouble keeping players engaged, as people now prefer entertainment that’s fast-paced and readily available.
People have been discussing this for years, and a new report from the gaming industry group Epyllion provides a detailed look at the issue.
The report shows that mobile apps – not mobile games in the usual sense – are becoming increasingly popular, with more people using them and generating more revenue.
Many people are now choosing to spend their free time on activities like social media, online betting, gambling, and viewing pornography. Researchers have also noticed a significant rise in the popularity of apps powered by artificial intelligence.
The video game industry’s biggest issue after the pandemic isn’t competition from platforms like TikTok or OnlyFans. It’s that players are simply spending more of their free time and money on things other than gaming, especially on Friday nights, according to a recent report.
Sony and similar companies likely won’t be thrilled to hear this, though they probably already monitor these trends internally to help with their financial planning.
These companies are likely trying to figure out how to attract more users. If people find even starting up a console and playing a game too difficult, that’s a real challenge for the gaming industry.
What do you think about all of this? Do you ever find yourself mindlessly scrolling on your phone when you could be playing a game? Is this just how things are now? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
