Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Premieres On Apple TV This February
Okay, so good news for fans of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters! Season two is officially hitting Apple TV on February 27th – it’s been a little over a year since we last saw these characters. And yes, Kurt Russell is back as Lee Shaw! They’ve confirmed he made it through the crazy events at the end of season one, which is a huge relief. The whole main cast is returning, so we can expect more of the same team dynamic we loved in the first season.
The upcoming season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will feature some exciting new additions! Amber Midthunder, known for her role in Prey, will join the cast as Isabel, described as a smart and influential businesswoman (according to Variety). Fans can also expect to see Godzilla and Kong return, alongside a brand new monster – a legendary Titan emerging from the ocean (as reported by Apple).
The second season of the show will largely be set on Skull Island, promising plenty of action and excitement. The complete season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will have 10 episodes, released one episode each Friday, with the final episode airing on May 1, 2026.

These days, it feels like most movies in theaters are part of well-known franchises, and their quality can be hit or miss. Often, big franchises that also have TV shows don’t quite succeed on television – Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are good examples of this. That’s what makes the Monsterverse so different and noteworthy.
The Monsterverse kicked off in 2014 with the film Godzilla and has since included five movies – with a sixth, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, planned for 2027 – and two TV series: the animated Skull Island on Netflix and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+. While none of the films have been universally praised by critics, three out of the five have received scores in the mid-70s on Rotten Tomatoes.
The franchise is clearly still popular, judging by its box office success. The newest movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (released in 2024), has earned over $572 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the series (according to Box Office Mojo).
The Monsterverse’s TV shows are actually receiving better reviews than its movies. “Skull Island” is awaiting confirmation for a second season, but currently boasts an 82

In addition to the upcoming return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple TV+ is developing a new prequel series set in the Monsterverse, and Wyatt Russell will star. While the series doesn’t have a title yet, Joby Harold, an executive producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, will be leading the project as showrunner.
Russell will return as a younger version of Colonel Lee Shaw, but this new show is set later in the Monsterverse timeline than the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The story will follow Shaw as he tries to stop the Soviet Union from using a Titan to attack the United States.
With the current series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Supernova in 2027, it’s a fantastic time to be a fan of the Monsterverse. We can only hope these new installments live up to the high standards of this already beloved franchise.
