Takara Tomy has unveiled a second round of Monster Hunter x Zoids action figures to mark significant milestones for both franchises. Zoids is celebrating its 40th birthday, while Monster Hunter is turning 20. These new toys fall under the Synergenex line from Takara, a division that typically produces toys for joint promotions. The upcoming action figures are modeled after the Mizutsune and Rajang from Monster Hunter, now known as the Gatling Fox Mizutsune and the Knuckle Kong Rajang in their Zoids toy versions. For this series, both creatures have been reimagined with a more mechanical and stylized design to align with the aesthetic of the Zoids brand. Previously, the Monster Hunter x Zoids toy line featured Rathalos and Liger figures.
These model kits for characters Gatling Fox Mizutsune and Knuckle Kong Rajang are now up for pre-order on Capcom’s and Takara’s Japanese online stores. Each kit costs around 6,600 yen or approximately 44.75 USD, with a release date set for October 2025. The announcement of this partnership follows the launch of the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds. Notably, the most recent adaptation of the Zoids anime was named Zoids Wild and Zoids Wild Zero. The Zoids franchise, with its roots dating back to the 1980s, initially gained popularity through toys before launching its first anime in 1999 with Zoids: Chaotic Century.
Monster Hunter and Zoids Are the Perfect Cross-Over
Despite the fact that Zoids seem like massive machines, the stories surrounding these titular beings in certain anime versions depict them as living organisms. These are creatures that people can ride or control from specialized cockpits. Given that Monster Hunter revolves around hunting and killing the largest monsters, a collaboration with Zoids is fitting. Since Zoids are already colossal creatures, it’s logical for many of the iconic Monster Hunter beasts to be reimagined as Zoids.
The Monster Hunter series, developed by Capcom, has turned into one of their most lucrative game franchises, boasting numerous merchandise and collaborations. Similarly, Takara Tamy is recognized for joining forces with various companies to produce exclusive merchandise. For instance, Takara has teamed up with Hasbro to manufacture a robot toy inspired by Macross and Transformers. While Takara sells Zoids kits through authorized American retailers, it remains uncertain whether the Gatling Fox Mizutsune and the Knuckle Kong Rajang will be available at these retailers in October. Usually, American fans can acquire Japanese exclusive kits from international stores that ship merchandise abroad.
Whatever Happened to Zoids: Chaotic Century?
As a die-hard Zoids fan, it’s been a long time since I could legally stream my all-time favorite series, “Zoids: Chaotic Century.” This incredible anime ran from 1999 to 2000, and introduced a new generation to legendary Zoids like the Liger. Although it had an English dub in the early 2000s, finding it these days feels like searching for a rare fossil. That’s because the studio that produced this masterpiece, Xebec, faced financial difficulties, making the series nearly impossible to watch after its initial airing. Despite struggling on and off until 2019, Xebec eventually sold its assets to Sunrise and Production I.G., leaving us fans still hoping for a comeback of our beloved “Zoids: Chaotic Century.
For years, Takara Tomy has collaborated with various studios to launch fresh anime series. Moreover, they’ve been actively promoting “Zoids: Chaotic Century” recently, as the official X account is commemorating its 25th anniversary in 2024. Fans are speculating that this new marketing push for “Zoids: Chaotic Century” might signal a potential return of the classic anime.
