Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are finally coming to Xbox — What’s even better is that we already have a release date

As someone who follows Xbox gaming and loves JRPGs, I was thrilled to hear Capcom’s announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2025! They’re bringing the complete Monster Hunter Stories series to Xbox, which is fantastic news for fans like me.

Good news! Both Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on November 14, 2025.

If you’re not familiar with it, Monster Hunter Stories is a different take on the Monster Hunter games. Instead of hunting monsters, you team up with them and ride them in battles.

Journey across a vast world, uncovering hidden secrets and protecting the land from danger. You’ll engage in strategic turn-based combat against massive monsters, and even befriend and train them to fight alongside you as powerful allies.

Many Monster Hunter fans, including me, consider Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2 to be hidden gems in the series. They’re popular for their appealing anime style, the huge variety of monsters you can collect and battle with, and their engaging combat system.

I’ve played both Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on PC, and I think they’re among the best creature-collecting games available. They cleverly update the genre while successfully blending in elements from the core Monster Hunter games.

Xbox players will soon be able to play Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2, with both games becoming available on November 14, 2025.

This is a great time to release these games, as they’ll introduce new players to the Monster Hunter Stories style of gameplay before Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection comes out on Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 13, 2026.

As an analyst, I’ve been following the development of the new Monster Hunter Stories game, and it’s clear they’re going for a much more mature and intense narrative this time around. It’s a significant departure from previous entries, focusing on weighty themes like war and the difficult choices people make in times of crisis. The core conflict revolves around monsters afflicted by a strange illness called Crystal Encroachment, which seems to be driving them to madness – and it’s this that forms the backdrop for a truly dramatic story.

This installment is the largest in the series yet, featuring a massive world to discover. Players can learn new combat skills and tools, collect a huge variety of Monsties, and battle powerful new monsters, including fan-favorites like Magnamalo (from Monster Hunter Rise) and Rey Dau (from Monster Hunter Wilds).

Monster Hunter fans have a lot to look forward between 2025 and 2026

Capcom really impressed everyone at this year’s Tokyo Game Show with their latest Monster Hunter news, and many believe they were the highlight of the event.

Get ready for a huge surprise: Monster Hunter Wilds is teaming up with Final Fantasy XIV in an epic crossover! Plus, all the Monster Hunter Stories games are coming to Xbox.

I wasn’t thrilled with Monster Hunter Wilds when it first came out, which worried me about the future of the series. This was different from my coworker, Jez Corden, who actually enjoyed it.

I’m starting to get really excited about Monster Hunter again, especially the Stories spin-off series. I actually enjoy those games even more than Pokémon now, and Capcom seems to be heading in the right direction.

As a researcher fascinated by narrative-driven RPGs, I’m really excited about the upcoming release of the Monster Hunter Stories series on Xbox this November. I’m planning to revisit both the first and second games, and I’m already looking forward to the launch of Monster Hunter Stories 3 on March 13, 2026. It will be a great opportunity to study the evolution of the series’ storytelling and gameplay mechanics.

I’ll be able to hunt with a massive robot in Monster Hunter Wilds when the game receives its third update on September 29, 2025.
