Monster Hunter Wilds’ big PC performance update drops today — and Capcom promises a fix for the DLC bug tanking framerate

Monster Hunter Wilds came out almost a year ago, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations for many players, including myself. People were disappointed with its easy difficulty, limited content after finishing the main game, and significant performance problems on PCs, leading to overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam for a long time.

Capcom has improved the game with several updates, but problems for PC players remain and have actually worsened. Recently, a bug in the system that checks for downloadable content is causing noticeable drops in framerate, a problem Capcom acknowledges.

Good news for Monster Hunter Wilds players! A major update to fix performance issues on PCs is coming out tonight at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time (that’s January 28, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. UTC for everyone else).

As an analyst, I’ve been following the upcoming performance patch for Monster Hunter Wilds closely. Capcom just released the detailed patch notes on their official website, which should give fans a clear picture of what improvements and changes to expect.

The patch notes are as follows:

Major Additions and Changes (Steam)

  • Improved CPU/GPU processing specific to the Steam version.
  • Reduced shader warming processes performed outside the shader compilation screen to lower CPU load.
  • Adjusted texture streaming to improve visual quality while reducing VRAM usage.
  • Adjusted the High Resolution Texture Pack to reduce VRAM usage and overall package size.
  • Added a CPU tab to the Options menu, allowing players to adjust settings related to CPU load.
  • Added new categories to the graphics settings, along with new settings for existing options.
  • Adjusted graphic presets and added a confirmation window to automatically update your settings on first launch after updating.
  • Expanded the Volumetric Fog setting in the graphics options from two levels to five. The previous “High” setting has been renamed to “Highest,” and “Low” to “High,” with three new lower options—”Medium,” “Low,” and “Lowest”—now available.
  • Fixed an issue where a warning dialogue incorrectly indicated that the AMD Radeon driver was outdated when using driver version 26.1.1 or later.

Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments (Steam)

  • Fixed an issue where system load could increase around the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand Hub due to claimed content status checks.
  • Adjusted Variable Rate Shading behavior so it is forced off during upscaling to maintain proper effect visuals.
  • Fixed other miscellaneous issues.

This update improves performance but needs 2GB of free space to install. Also, please make sure your video card drivers are up to date before you download it.

Gamers with NVIDIA graphics cards need to update to version 581.57 or later. Those using AMD cards should update to version 25.9.1 or 25.9.2. Capcom notes that AMD Radeon drivers 25.10.2 and newer are currently causing some problems.

Video driver information can change at any time, as it depends on support from companies like NVIDIA and AMD.

Will Monster Hunter Wilds finally get fixed on PC?

Monster Hunter Wilds has had a rocky start on PC, but this new patch is expected to fix the performance problems players have been experiencing since the game came out.

We’re watching how players react to the new PC performance update and will share whether it’s working well or needs more improvements.
