Capcom revealed the ‘Ascendance’ expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds at Summer Games Fest 2026, and it’s set to release in 2027. This major update will bring a huge amount of new content to the game.
Starting with Monster Hunter World, the series has consistently released substantial downloadable content after launch. These updates typically add a new area to discover, along with new monsters to hunt, and extremely challenging G-Rank quests that really put players’ skills to the test.
Players have been hoping for new content for Monster Hunter Wilds, following the large expansions released for previous games like Iceborne and Sunbreak. That new expansion, called Ascendance, was just revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026. It will feature aerial exploration – hunters will take to the skies and explore floating islands, reminiscent of those seen in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds shows hunters using a special ability called ‘Seikret’ to travel to islands in the sky. There, they’ll face off against new monsters using powerful, upgraded weapon skills – even explosives! The game appears to focus on discovering a hidden civilization that has thrived among the clouds, and the monsters who have lived there with them.
The trailer features a formidable Elder Dragon that controls the wind, using it to rip apart and send other monsters crashing down. Like previous Monster Hunter expansions, this dragon is probably the main boss, much like Malenzo was in the Sunbreak expansion.
The latest expansion, titled Ascendance, will let hunters take to the skies. Players will explore floating islands, similar to those featured in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Capcom has revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is expected to release in 2027, though a more specific launch date wasn’t given. It might not be available until late in the year. The good news is, it won’t be competing with the many other games scheduled for release in the busy August-October timeframe, as developers try to launch before Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out.

Many players and reviewers were disappointed with Monster Hunter Wilds because it removed popular features from Monster Hunter Rise, had a brief story, included too many tedious escort missions, and was surprisingly easy. The upcoming Ascendance update offers a chance to improve the game and potentially win back fans.
