PC players of Monster Hunter Wilds who have been experiencing performance problems might be relieved to hear that Capcom is addressing the issue. The studio has also confirmed a player’s idea about what was causing some of these problems.
Capcom has released a new patch for Monster Hunter Wilds that should make the game run smoother on Steam. The update includes improvements to how the game uses your computer’s resources, reducing the strain on your system.
Capcom has identified a problem where the game is putting too much strain on players’ CPUs. This is caused by a system meant to check for downloadable content players haven’t yet claimed, and it confirms a discovery made by a Monster Hunter Wilds player earlier this month.
Capcom says this issue only causes frame rate drops in the Base Camp and Grand Hub areas of Wilds. The amount of downloadable content you own isn’t a factor – simply having any uninstalled DLC can trigger the problem.
The developers are continuing to improve and optimize Monster Hunter Wilds. A new patch coming in February will focus on making the game run more smoothly by adjusting the detail levels of 3D models, which should reduce the strain on graphics cards.
LOD, or Level of Detail, controls how much detail is visible in 3D models like characters and objects. Basically, it adjusts the complexity of these models.
Capcom suggests a fix for performance issues in Monster Hunter Wilds involves automatically using lower-detail models for distant objects. This indicates the game currently doesn’t do this, which could be why some PC players have been experiencing low frame rates. That’s concerning.
