Capcom recently showed off the content coming in the third major update for Monster Hunter Wilds during Tokyo Game Show 2025. This update, which includes new features and content, is scheduled to release on September 29, 2025.
As an analyst, I’m seeing that this upcoming update is shaping up to be our largest yet. We’re partnering with Final Fantasy XIV, and players will be able to take on a massive boss – a killer robot named Omega Planetes. Beyond that, we’re adding a ton of Final Fantasy-inspired gear and cosmetic items. It’s a really exciting collaboration with a lot to offer.
Following Capcom’s showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2025, players were able to try out a demo of the game and fight the Omega Planetes monster. Videos of these battles quickly appeared online, and the footage suggests that Omega Planetes is shaping up to be the most challenging boss in Monster Hunter Wilds so far.
Heads up! This explanation contains spoilers for the Omega Planetes battle. If you’d prefer to experience the fight without knowing what happens, please stop reading now.
Omega Planetes is a massive, war-like machine based on Omega, a famously difficult boss from both Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XIV. It appeared as a raid boss in the Stormblood expansion of the online game.
Based on gameplay videos from sources like GameSpot, Omega Planetes in this game seems to use many of the same skills as it did in Final Fantasy XIV, but with added new attacks and strategies players will have to learn to avoid.
Okay, so fighting Omega Planetes is *intense*. Basically, it just throws everything it has at you! It’s constantly firing lasers, and then it’ll try to smash into you with its tough exterior. If that wasn’t enough, it also breathes fire and just *launches* missiles and rocket-powered punches all over the place. It’s a total assault!
Omega Planetes can also launch Mustard Bombs, creating large areas of burning ground that damage players who stand inside them. If you’re hit by this attack, quickly move out of the fire and try to position it at the edge of the arena to give your team space to maneuver safely.
Omega Planetes has attacks that can cause a debilitating effect called HP Penalty. This drastically reduces a player’s maximum health, and unfortunately, it can only be resolved by waiting for the effect to naturally fade.
Omega Planetes is a challenging encounter with no room for error. To help your team, you can draw the boss’s focus by attacking it until you gain its attention – you’ll know you have it when a red arrow appears pointing from the boss to you.
To make things even harder, you won’t just face Omega Planetes in this hunt. It can also summon smaller creatures called Omega Micros, which will rush players in suicide attacks.
Defeating the smaller Omega-Minis creates a temporary shield that protects you from Omega Planetes’ attacks. You’ll need to use this shield later in the fight, as Omega Planetes will eventually become much more powerful in its Pantokrator Mode.
When Pantokrator Mode is active, Omega Planetes becomes extremely aggressive, unleashing a barrage of attacks in every direction. To stop this, you need to damage its legs by inflicting Wounds, then focus your attacks during Focus Mode to break them and bring the creature down.
Omega Planetes has more surprises in store. During the third stage of the battle, the boss will take to the air and create a holographic copy of Nerscylla to keep you busy while it powers up its most powerful attack, the Delta Attack.

Quickly focus all your attacks on the holographic Nerscylla! Destroying it will create a shield, protecting you from the deadly Delta Attack. If you fail to do so, the Delta Attack will instantly defeat all players.
If you make it through, you’ll reach the final stage, where Omega Planetes unleashes its most powerful attacks, including the recognizable ‘Larboard’ and ‘Starboard’ lasers that players of Final Fantasy XIV will remember.
Prepare the most, out-of-this-world hunt in Monster Hunter history
Players familiar with the Omega fight from Final Fantasy XIV will find Omega Planetes a very accurate and enjoyable adaptation of the boss battle, reimagined for the Monster Hunter world.
This enemy is incredibly challenging, featuring powerful area-of-effect attacks and complex teamwork mechanics. You’ll need a full team to defeat it, similar to the difficult Behemoth battle from the Monster Hunter World and Final Fantasy XIV collaboration.
This hunt will likely require us to fully utilize all of Monster Hunter Wilds’ new features – it won’t be something we can just choose to do, but a necessity for success.
During this battle, you’ll encounter several monsters, including Omega Planetes and Nerscylla. Each monster has different weaknesses – Omega Planetes is vulnerable to Thunder, and Nerscylla is weak against Fire.
To defeat Nerscylla quickly and prevent its dangerous Delta Attack, we’ll need to bring both a Thunder and a Fire weapon and switch between them during the fight using the Seikret mount.
Just a heads-up, this is likely the standard Omega Planetes boss fight. Based on my experience with Behemoth in Monster Hunter World, I suspect a more challenging ‘Tempered’ version will eventually be released, and I’d definitely be excited to fight it if that happens.
Capcom appears to be listening to player feedback about the game being too easy. They’ve been steadily improving the late-game content with updates, and the recent addition of tougher monsters like Seregios and Lagiacrus in the second update is a great example of this.
Their hard work is finally paying off with the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration, and I’m really excited to play it! I especially want to get the Omega Planetes parts so I can craft the Dark Knight armor set.
But will this update win back players who were upset with the game’s initial PC performance and other problems? We’ll find out on September 29, 2025, when the 3rd Title Update for Monster Hunter Wilds is released.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for purchase on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
