With Pixar’s new movie, Hoppers, hitting theaters this weekend, the studio has also shared news about several sequels that are in the works.
The biggest news might be that a third Monsters, Inc. movie is planned! While details are still being developed, it will continue the story from the original 2001 film, the 2013 prequel Monsters University, and the Monsters at Work Disney+ series, which aired from 2021 to 2024.
I just read a fascinating interview with Pete Docter, the head of Pixar, in the Wall Street Journal. He let slip some exciting news! Apparently, we can finally expect Incredibles 3 in 2028, and they’re already working on Coco 2, which is slated for 2029. As a huge Pixar fan, I’m already counting down the days!
Pixar is developing two new original films. One is a musical, the studio’s first, directed by Domee Shi, who previously worked on Turning Red. The other, titled Ono Ghost Market, is inspired by Asian folklore about magical, otherworldly markets. It was initially planned as a series, but will now be released as a movie.

Disney hasn’t officially confirmed the release dates for ‘Incredibles 3’ (2028) and ‘Coco 2’ (2029) that were reported in a recent Wall Street Journal article. While the article mentioned these dates, Disney hasn’t verified them yet.
Pixar currently has only two more movies planned: Toy Story 5, coming out this summer, and Gatto, a story about a black cat named Nero in Venice.

Unlike the first two Incredibles movies, Brad Bird won’t be directing the third film. He’ll still be involved as a writer and executive producer, but Peter Sohn will take on the director’s role.
Holly Hunter, who voices Elastigirl, mentioned earlier this year that she was scheduled to start recording her lines for the movie in March. That means she may have already started working on it.
Hoppers is out in UK cinemas now.
