Moon Knight’s 7 Deadliest Villains, Ranked

Moon Knight first appeared in a Marvel comic called Werewolf by Night, and has since become a popular, though somewhat lesser-known, antihero. He began as a former mercenary who fought crime at night, much like Batman. But while Batman operates in the shadows, Moon Knight deliberately stands out with his all-white costume and incredible ability to withstand punishment. What truly sets him apart, though, is his Dissociative Identity Disorder. Initially presented with four distinct personalities used for gathering information, Marvel later developed this into a full diagnosis of DID, adding significant depth and complexity to the character.

This development also allowed for a more diverse set of enemies for Moon Knight, including intriguing villains like rival mercenaries and even people he once knew. Here’s a ranking of Moon Knight’s most dangerous foes.

7) Taskmaster

Taskmaster is a highly dangerous mercenary in Marvel Comics and one of Moon Knight’s most formidable foes. What’s a bit ironic is that despite his skills, he’s often seen as a less impressive villain compared to others. He has a unique ability: he can perfectly copy anyone’s fighting style after watching them just once. This allows him to fight like experts such as Captain America and Black Widow, making him a very difficult opponent.

His plan didn’t work out as expected when facing two particular heroes. He finds Deadpool difficult to fight because Deadpool doesn’t follow any predictable pattern. He also strongly dislikes Moon Knight, whose strategy involves enduring a lot of punishment and continuing to fight. This terrifies Taskmaster because it completely disrupts his ability to anticipate and counter attacks.

6) Bullseye

Bullseye is a remarkably dangerous enemy, known for his skill as a marksman – he almost never misses his target. He’s a ruthless mercenary with a history of conflict with both Daredevil and Moon Knight. Tragically, he’s responsible for the deaths of people Daredevil loved, including Karen Page and Elektra.

Bullseye and Moon Knight have clashed numerous times, including when Bullseye worked for Norman Osborn’s Thunderbolts team. Bullseye demonstrated his lethal skill by seemingly killing Moon Knight in 2008, though it was later revealed that Moon Knight had faked his death to operate undercover as Jake Lockley. Even knowing this, Bullseye still pushed Moon Knight to his limits in their fights.

5) Sun King

Several characters in Marvel Comics have been called Sun King, but this one is known as Patient 86, and his true identity is a mystery. He first appeared in Moon Knight #188 in 2017. He barely remembers his life before becoming Sun King, except that he suffered abuse as a child and later discovered he could create fire.

Similar to how Moon Knight gains his abilities from the god Khonshu, the Sun King derives his powers from his faith in Amon Ra, the Sun God. This makes him Moon Knight’s opposite – both are empowered by deities, but represent contrasting forces. After a psychiatrist pointed out their similarities, the Sun King became fixated on Moon Knight and tried to defeat him. However, the Sun King also struggled with mental health issues, and Moon Knight ultimately decided to offer help instead of fighting him.

4) Shadow Knight

Shadow Knight is the villain most closely linked to Moon Knight. This is because he’s actually Randall Spector, Marc Spector’s younger brother. Both brothers worked as mercenaries for the CIA, but Randall betrayed the agency and killed someone Marc cared about, creating a deep rift between them. Marc attempted to kill Randall, but failed. Randall survived, though he was left severely injured and mentally unstable.

Honestly, it’s heartbreaking to see how far he’s fallen. All this started with a desire for revenge against his brother, and it twisted him into something truly awful – a hired gun and a killer. Then he got involved with this dangerous cult, the Cult of Knonshu, and they gave him powers… powers that actually make him a threat greater than Moon Knight himself! He’s a relentless enemy, and the fact that he intentionally crippled Frenchie, just to hurt Marc, shows how low he’ll go. It’s terrifying, and I really fear for everyone involved.

3) Dracula

From the beginning, Moon Knight has been linked to Dracula, ever since his first appearance in “Werewolf by Night.” For years, he existed within the monster-focused side of Marvel Comics. But the surprisingly famous rivalry between them isn’t about Dracula’s abilities. It’s actually based on a running joke – a meme claiming Dracula owes Moon Knight money – and it originated online, not in the comics themselves.

This all started when someone altered an image of Moon Knight to make it look like he was demanding Dracula repay a debt. This fake panel circulated online and was combined with other fabricated comic panels over time, continuing the joke of Moon Knight asking for money. Though Dracula and Moon Knight haven’t historically been rivals in Marvel comics, these memes are arguably more entertaining than many of Dracula’s actual storylines.

2) Moon Shade

Moon Shade first appeared in the 1992 crossover event, The Infinity War, and presented a significant challenge for Moon Knight. Created by the villain Magus as an evil copy of Moon Knight, he joined other doppelgängers in attacking Earth’s heroes at Four Freedoms Plaza during the series.

Moon Shade took the concept of Moon Knight to an extreme, becoming a truly demonic force. He teamed up with a copy of Franklin Richards and nearly stole all of the boy’s incredible powers before Moon Knight intervened. After gaining some of Franklin’s power himself, Moon Shade traveled across dimensions, collecting the abilities of other Moon Knight versions. He became so powerful that Moon Knight couldn’t defeat him alone, requiring help from alternate versions of himself to finally win.

1) Mephisto

In a large storyline within The Avengers called The Age of Khonshu, the god Khonshu discovered Mephisto was plotting to take over the universe. To stop him, Khonshu tasked Moon Knight with stealing the Avengers’ powers, hoping to gain the strength needed for the battle. This naturally led to a conflict, as the Avengers saw Moon Knight as a threat and fought against him.

Khonshu was correct – Mephisto was indeed planning something major. However, Moon Knight was preoccupied battling the Avengers and couldn’t intervene. Mephisto is, without a doubt, the most powerful enemy Moon Knight has ever faced, a demon with nearly unlimited power and a significant place in Marvel Comics lore.
