Morena Baccarin Hypes Sorceress Role in ‘Masters of the Universe;’ Praises “Incredible” Nicholas Galitzine

The new adaptation aims to be a more accurate portrayal of the classic 80s cartoon and toy line than the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren. While the earlier movie included the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, her part was small and didn’t quite capture the character as fans remembered from the animated series. This could be different with the upcoming reboot directed by Travis Knight.

Morena Baccarin, known for her roles in the Deadpool movies and the Fire Country spin-off Sheriff Country, will star alongside Gerard Butler in the upcoming action film Greenland 2: Migration. During an interview with MovieWeb to promote the January release, Baccarin described her upcoming role in Masters of the Universe as a dream come true.

Playing The Sorceress feels like a new challenge in my career. It’s unlike any role I’ve taken on before. I did train for the physical aspects, including movement and working with wires, but a lot of the final effects will be added later in post-production.

Being part of this movie was a dream come true – I watched this franchise growing up, and it felt surreal to actually be in it. I kept having to remind myself it was real! I think Nicholas Galitzine is going to be fantastic as He-Man, and I really believe audiences are going to enjoy the film. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

‘Masters of the Universe’ Looks Set to Please Long-Term He-Man Fans

It’s been a long wait for He-Man and Skeletor to clash on the big screen, and the upcoming movie finally offers a true adaptation of the original 1980s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. Previous attempts, like the 1987 film, took significant liberties with the source material.

Before the official trailer is released—which is coming very soon—a small group of fans who attended a secret preview have been highly complimentary of Travis Knight’s work on the movie. Many have noted the film’s visual style closely resembles the original cartoon series, a detail confirmed by the inclusion of the character Cringer.

As a lifelong He-Man fan, I was so relieved to see Battle Cat in the new movie! It really bothered me that he was left out of the Dolph Lundgren film, so having him back is a huge part of what’s getting me excited. There are a ton of big movies coming out in the summer of 2026, but I have a feeling Masters of the Universe could be a real surprise hit, maybe even stand out alongside movies like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Mandalorian & Grogu.
