It’s basically a collection of the older Mortal Kombat games – the good ones, and even a few that didn’t quite land – and it’s a great way to revisit the series’ history and remind everyone just how long it’s been kicking butt!

If you enjoy the fighting games created by Ed Boon, you’ve probably noticed the Legacy Kollection, which is packed with cool features and a lot of games. Whether you’ve been playing since the beginning or are new to the series with Mortal Kombat 1, there’s something here for everyone. But the big question is: is it worth the investment?

If you remember playing the games in the Legacy Kollection when they first came out, you might cringe thinking about how difficult it was to unlock characters. Some required very specific and challenging actions, taking hours of effort just to play as your favorite character.

As a huge fan, I was so relieved to see Digital Eclipse included a way to just unlock all the characters right away! It skips all those complicated challenges, which is a massive time-saver and honestly, just makes the whole experience way more fun for me.

13. MK Gold’s Absence Explained

Many fans were upset that the improved version of Mortal Kombat 4 originally made for the Sega Dreamcast wasn’t included in the new game. However, Dan Amrich from Digital Eclipse explained that they did consider adding it, but ultimately decided against it due to factors outside of their control.

He also mentioned that downloadable content might be added to the game, and rumors are still circulating that MK Gold could be included. While we shouldn’t take this news as definite, it’s good to know the game is still being considered in some way.

14. A Few More Iconic Titles In The Pipeline

The Legacy Kollection includes some of the greatest classic Mortal Kombat games, but it’s missing popular titles from the PlayStation 2 era, including Mortal Kombat 9.

The studio explained that they’ve been concentrating on bringing the franchise’s story to life over time, and that adding these games felt like a natural step. This suggests that more highly-rated titles from later in the series might be added to the collection in the future, either as downloadable content or in a separate collection of games.
