A fresh trailer for the “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” has been unveiled by Digital Eclipse and Atari, confirming that fans can now pre-order the physical edition of this collection on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, a Deluxe Edition of the game is up for grabs, allowing pre-orders on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2. This special edition will offer the “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” along with extra bonus items. Take a look at the trailer below to get a sneak peek!
The trailer highlights some aspects of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, including that all games within the collection will offer online multiplayer support using rollback netcode, ensuring seamless multiplayer encounters with minimal concerns about lag affecting your input. Additionally, it offers a sneak peek at several iconic Mortal Kombat titles included in the Legacy Kollection, such as the original Mortal Kombat, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and the first 3D game in the series – Mortal Kombat 4.
Notably, a Collector’s Edition has been announced for platforms such as PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and an anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Each edition includes the game itself, in addition to special items like a high-quality Premium Collector’s Box, a hardcover book encompassing art and lore, a collectible pin set showcasing Sub-Zero and Scorpion, commemorative arcade tokens housed within an acrylic display stand, and a controller holder designed in the likeness of Goro’s original stop motion figure. It is important to mention that the PC version will only provide a Steam code for the game, whereas other versions will be delivered on discs.
In the Legacy Kollection, certain games come with alternate versions for players to enjoy. To give you an example, the Mortal Kombat Trilogy is included in the collection too, offering variations on the first three Mortal Kombat games. Although the changes may seem small, they can result in varied gameplay experiences or even enhanced graphics and character rosters. Interestingly, some games will even include their Game Boy Advance versions as part of the collection.
The “Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection” was initially revealed in June, with the lineup of games yet to be fully disclosed. Among those confirmed are “Mortal Kombat” from 1992, “Mortal Kombat 2” from 1993, “Mortal Kombat 3” from 1995, “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3” also from 1995, “Mortal Kombat 4” from 1997, “Mortal Kombat Advance” from 2001, “Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” from 2002, and “Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition” from 2003.
The main responsibility for this project lies with Digital Eclipse, renowned for their successful launch of Atari 50, a highly praised tribute to Atari’s rich history that included games from their earliest consoles. This company is also recognized for incorporating intriguing behind-the-scenes details in engaging and interactive formats. These can vary from simpler elements like concept art, to more complex ones such as vintage game development footage, and even contemporary interviews with developers. Similarly, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will include interviews with the original creators of the games, such as Ed Boon, John Tobias, John Vogel, and Dan Forden.
The collection known as “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” does not currently have an announced release date. There was speculation in July that it could be released on the 29th of September, but this has yet to be confirmed.
