The Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is a fantastic way to experience the history of this beloved fighting game series. However, some dedicated players have noticed a slight delay in responsiveness on the PlayStation 5.
Although PlayStation is often the console of choice for fighting game fans, it’s historically had issues with delays between pressing a button and seeing the action on screen, affecting both new and older games.
Expert input lag tester Nigel Woodall found that the PlayStation 5 adds around 108 milliseconds of lag when playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. This is equal to roughly six or seven frames of delay.
When it comes to input lag, the PlayStation 5 version feels the slowest. It has around 22 milliseconds of delay, while the PC version is at 51ms, and the Switch 2 is at 73ms. These results are consistent across all the games in the collection, meaning the PS5 consistently feels less responsive.
Digital Eclipse has released a quick fix for the PC version to address some sound problems, and they’re now working on a solution for consoles.
It wrote on X (or Twitter):
Thanks for all your feedback about MKLK, especially regarding the audio and lag problems. We’re releasing a quick update soon to fix several of these issues, and we’re continuing to work on the more complex ones. We’ll share more details next week, but please know we’re on it and appreciate your patience.
Fortunately, other fighting games have successfully lowered input lag on the PS5, so we’re optimistic that Digital Eclipse can significantly improve this in the near future.
We still think this collection is worth recommending. Any noticeable delay in response time will likely only be a problem for very dedicated, serious players.
But clearly there’s room for improvement, and we’re hopeful the dev can address these issues fast.
