If you’ve played Moss, the popular VR game known for its innovative use of sign language between players and the main character, you might be disappointed to hear that Polyarc Games, the studio behind it, has had to let go of several employees.
Like many other game studios recently, this American company is laying off some employees. The cuts are happening because a significant project was canceled, leading to financial difficulties. The company shared the difficult news on LinkedIn, indicating the decision wasn’t made easily.
We’ve made the difficult decision to downsize the company. This unfortunately means we’re parting ways with many valued team members who have played a vital role in our success. We want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone affected. Your hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication were truly appreciated. We’ve created some amazing games together, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without your contributions. Your impact will continue to be felt in our company and future games.
The studio was created by people who previously worked at Bungie and Rockstar Games. They first gained recognition with the game Moss, which was followed by Moss: Book 2. A potential third Moss game may have been the project that was cancelled, leading to the team’s recent disbandment and members joining Epic Games and Eidos Montreal – a situation that highlights the difficulties currently facing the gaming industry.
Polyarc hasn’t shared its future plans yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as they’re announced. Keep checking back for updates!
