The current season of My Hero Academia is wrapping up with the latest episode, which reveals a surprising villain unexpectedly lived through the final battle and details what happens to them now. The final fight involved many powerful villains, led by Shigaraki Tomura and the League of Villains, all of whom greatly impacted the story. After the battle, it seemed only Spinner, a villain with a unique appearance, had survived, as Shigaraki, Dabi, and Toga all appeared to have been defeated.
The most recent episode of My Hero Academia revealed a shocking twist: Dabi, also known as Toya Todoroki, is still alive. Episode 168, “Epilogue, The Hellish Todoroki Family: Final,” shows the entire Todoroki family reunited as it’s discovered that Toya survived. He’s currently hospitalized, heavily restrained, and only able to speak for a few minutes each day. Although Dabi is alive, his condition suggests he doesn’t have much time left. In what little time remains, Endeavor promises to accept his son’s anger and finally give him the acknowledgment he always craved.
My Hero Academia Epilogue Unveils a Tragic Villain Still Alive

Dabi’s journey to becoming a villain was heavily influenced by his father, Endeavor, who relentlessly sought a son who could exceed his own power and even surpass All Might. Dabi’s desperate attempts to please his father, despite feeling inadequate, led him down a destructive path and ultimately created a tragic figure. The final confrontation, where the entire family faces the consequences of their actions, highlights how each member feels responsible for Dabi’s fate. This shared accountability is why they all come together to confront him after the battle, acknowledging their past mistakes and starting the process of healing.
Understandably, Endeavor, who is largely responsible for his son’s suffering, accepts full blame. Having lost his right hand and now using a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he tells Dabi he’s retiring as a hero. He promises to dedicate the rest of his life to making amends for his past mistakes, seeking no reward and accepting any anger directed at him from his family or others.
Dabi’s unexpected survival, while surprising, is a crucial part of resolving the Todoroki family’s story and Endeavor’s journey to make amends. Though he can’t undo the pain he caused, this moment offers a small step towards healing. Shoto asking Toya about his favorite food, and Toya responding, represents the start of that process – it’s imperfect, but enough to move the once-troubled Todoroki family towards a more normal life. With only two episodes left in My Hero Academia, the ending is starting strong by providing meaningful closure for one of the series’ most tragic villains and those he hurt.
