My Hero Academia Promo Shows Even Anime’s Worst Dad Gets His Day

Over time, what started off appearing as solely Izuku Midoriya’s path to heroism in My Hero Academia has grown into a richly detailed narrative focusing on an endearing group of aspiring heroes. It didn’t take long for this tale to venture beyond Deku’s journey, delving into characters like Bakugo, Uraraka, Todoroki, and numerous others from Class 1-A. The intricate storylines of each character eventually converged in the Final Arc, creating a compelling climax.

One intriguing subplot that has captivated viewers since the beginning is the tumultuous storyline of the Todoroki family, particularly their troubled past that can be traced back to Endeavor, the No. 2 Pro Hero and patriarch of the family, also known as Enji Todoroki. Often criticized for his questionable parenting skills, Endeavor is frequently labeled as one of the worst fathers in anime by many viewers. However, despite his contentious nature, Endeavor still manages to garner attention occasionally, such as when the official anime handle of My Hero Academia on X platform recently shared a post wishing him a happy birthday on August 8th. The post features a straightforward birthday greeting accompanied by an image of Endeavor from the anime, apparently depicting his intense battle against Dabi in the last season.

My Hero Academia’s Endeavor Still Remains One of the Worst Anime Dads

In the world of anime, it’s not unusual for parents to pass away or be absent. However, Endeavor from My Hero Academia stands out as particularly unappealing, frequently earning him top spots on lists of the worst dads in anime. Few anime fathers surpass Enji in terms of unlikeability, with exceptions like Hikaru Kamiki from Oshi no Ko, who was a cold-blooded murderer, and Gambino from Berserk, who wasn’t really Guts’ father at all. Vinsmoke Judge from One Piece shares many of Enji’s unlikeable traits, such as an obsession with eugenics. But Judge takes it to a more extreme and reprehensible level.

Although Endeavor might not be as villainous as certain other anime fathers, his behavior towards his wife and children remains inexcusable. Consequently, the efforts in “My Hero Academia” to rehabilitate him during the Final Arc and epilogue fall short. By the story’s end, the harm done to Touya and the Todoroki family is beyond repair, as evident by Natsuo’s unwillingness to forgive Enji. It’s possible that “My Hero Academia’s” X account was intentionally sarcastic with the brief, underwhelming celebration post for Endeavor, yet those who managed to find forgiveness for him by the series’ end may still celebrate the fiery pro-hero on his birthday.

You can find the manga series “My Hero Academia” for reading on platforms like Manga Plus and Viz Media, while streaming options are available on Crunchyroll.
