My Hero Academia isn’t simply a Japanese take on superhero stories you might find in Western comics like X-Men or The Umbrella Academy. Over the past ten years, creator Kōhei Horikoshi has truly redefined anime and manga storytelling with this school-based series, giving us a memorable cast of heroes and villains who are both inspiring and wonderfully strange.
In this world, people have special abilities called “quirks,” but that hardly describes how strange and unique they can be. Just within Class 1-A, you’ll find students with incredible powers like transforming into a frog, gaining super strength by eating sugar, and even shooting lasers from their belly buttons!
Most stories wouldn’t feature characters like these, but in My Hero Academia, unique abilities are common—even normal. Still, with so many strange characters, who stands out as the *weirdest* of them all? This list introduces ten of the most unusual individuals you’ll find in the series.
10. Taneo Tokuda – Whole Body Lens
Taneo Tokuda has an amazing ability: he can create camera lenses on his skin. This means he can take photos without ever worrying about his phone’s battery dying!
Tokuda has a unique ability: he can instantly print photos, like Polaroids, directly from his chest. It’s no surprise he’s a reporter – it’s hard to imagine a more practical use for such a skill! Trying to use it for anything else certainly wouldn’t be a reliable way to make a living.
9. Teruo Hazukashi – Shame

Most people blush or sweat when they feel embarrassed or ashamed. But for Hazukashi, those feelings actually give him incredible strength.
In episode 87, this villain unexpectedly decides to run naked through a crowded street, seemingly fueled by the embarrassment it causes. It’s strange, though, because he’s actually in great shape – those abs are impressive – so why he’d be ashamed to show them off is a mystery.
8. Setsuna Tokage – Lizard Tail Splitter

Tokage has a strange and unsettling power: she can break her body apart into multiple pieces, and each piece can move on its own.
It gets even stranger – every single part of her body can actually float! I mean, anything from her nose to her smallest pinky finger can just zoom around in the air whenever it wants. It’s incredible!
Lizards can’t do what Tokage does, and you definitely wouldn’t question her Quirk to her face. She’s likely to respond by doing something unsettling, like detaching and throwing her tongue or a foot at you.
7. Minoru Mineta – Pop Off

Being one of the original students of Class 1-A, this character is probably the most famous Quirk user on this list. However, that familiarity might be why he’s ranked lower – we’ve all just gotten used to seeing him create those strange, sticky balls from his hair.
We can’t accept his disturbing behavior towards girls, especially combined with the fact that he wears a diaper while engaging in it. It’s time to remove Minoru Mineta immediately.
6. Kojiro Bondo – Cemedine

Kojiro Bondo, a student in Class 1-B, has a fitting quirk: he can shoot out a fast-drying glue that sticks to almost anything. While there are definitely stranger quirks in the world of My Hero Academia, his is certainly unique.
What really makes Bondo unsettling is that he’s basically a human-sized glue gun, spraying adhesive from where his face should be. It’s honestly terrifying, and I definitely don’t want to encounter him.
5. Comicman – Comic

Comicman is a unique superhero with a face that looks like an empty comic book page. Instead of speaking normally, words actually appear in the air when he talks – and they’re not just random phrases!
These words imitate sounds, and by doing so, they help us experience what those sounds are like.
This ability is incredibly versatile and powerful, but using it too much gives Comicman a sore throat. Honestly, if you’re aiming to be the top hero, a few cough drops and a little extra effort should solve that problem.
4. Ending – Whiteline

So, it turns out this guy, Ending, can manipulate white lines – it’s a pretty unique ability. Interestingly, it doesn’t work with red lines at all, and white circles are also off-limits for him. It’s like his power is specifically tuned to just white lines.
To be clear, Ending’s power only affects the white lines painted on roads. If you fight him outside of urban areas, his ability won’t work.
Don’t underestimate Ending, though. With a special drug called Trigger that enhances Quirks, he can use his Whiteline ability to create tentacles. These tentacles are surprisingly strong – he can use them to restrain opponents or even fling things like cars! It’s a bit simple, but definitely effective.
3. Seiji Shishikura – Meatball

If Shishikura could magically create the perfect spaghetti dish with his Quirk, he’d instantly be considered one of the greatest heroes of all time.
However, that’s not this student’s Quirk. The student from Shiketsu High School can actually control and reshape living flesh.
It wasn’t just a simple bite, either. His disturbing specialty was essentially squeezing people into a tight, rounded shape – like a meatball – while they remained fully aware of everything happening. The *whole* time.
On top of everything else, Shishikura has the disturbing ability to control his own body. He’s become so powerful – or perhaps caused too much distress – that he doesn’t appear in the show as often anymore.
2. Tatami Nakagame – Telescopic

You’d probably think the Telescopic Quirk lets someone see things at a distance, like with a telescope. However, that’s Mei Hatsume’s ability. Tatami Nakagame’s power is much stranger and unsettling.
Her Quirk is amazing! She can basically fold in on herself, kind of like a turtle pulling into its shell, but the name ‘Turtle’ didn’t quite fit. It’s way cooler to think of it like a telescope collapsing – all these smaller sections sliding inside each other, one after the other. It’s a really neat, compacting ability!
So, that’s my Quirk, the whole thing! Honestly, it’s not much. The best I can hope for is winning at hide-and-seek, or maybe pretending to be a kid to get a cheaper train fare. It’s… limited, to say the least!
It’s difficult to understand how hiding your arms and legs would help protect people or allow you to defend yourself.
1. Susugu Mitarai – Clean Bubbler

Okay, so laundry is usually the *worst*, right? But not for Susugu Mitarai! Everyone knows him as the Pro-Hero Wash, and his Quirk is seriously cool. He can actually *create* soapy water from his own body and use it for all sorts of things – it’s way more versatile than it sounds!
I’m absolutely fascinated by the potential of giant bubbles! Imagine being able to contain bad guys inside them, or even just lift them safely into the air. But it’s not just about capture – the special soapy solution I’m developing could also be amazing for healing injuries. It’s a really versatile idea, and I’m excited about where it could lead!
It’s all very strange, but the most surprising thing about Mitarai is that his seemingly minor ability somehow made him one of the top 10 Pro-Heroes. It’s incredible – the hero who dresses like a washing machine is actually in the top 10 out of hundreds of others!
What information does Mitarai have that gives him an advantage? What compromising information does he possess about those in power? He’s created a problem that won’t easily be fixed.
