My Hero Academia’s Anime Might Not Be Over Just Yet

Despite the recent finale and the end of the original manga, fans are hoping My Hero Academia‘s anime isn’t truly over. The anime series, which ran for nine years and 170 episodes, has concluded, marking the end of a significant era for Shonen Jump anime. While Kohei Horikoshi’s manga finished its run in Shonen Jump magazine last year, some still believe there could be more to come.

The final episode of My Hero Academia ends with a puzzling message – “Our story continues on…” – which leaves fans wondering what it means. It could simply be a way of saying that Deku and the other heroes’ adventures will go on, even if we don’t see them. However, with a new “Plus Ultra” announcement expected soon, it’s also possible that this is a hint at a continuation of the anime series.

What Does My Hero Academia Have Planned?

The popular anime My Hero Academia will be making a major announcement, called “Plus Ultra,” at the Jump Festa 2026 event on December 20-21. While details are still under wraps, fans are hoping it will involve new animated content. This could be anything from a short special episode to a full-length movie, similar to releases between seasons in the past, and would be exciting news for fans.

Fans are also wondering if the extra story chapters released after the manga ended will be included in the anime. Though Kohei Horikoshi finished My Hero Academia in 2024, he later added two new chapters that continued the story beyond the original finale. These chapters would be perfect for the anime to adapt, potentially giving fans more content even though the main series has concluded.

My Hero Academia’s Anime Will Continue Either Way

Even if the main My Hero Academia series doesn’t continue with the epilogue material, the franchise will live on. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2 is scheduled to premiere this January as part of the Winter 2026 anime lineup, and it plays a significant role in the overall story. The new season will explore important events from the past, adding depth and context to the main series’ narrative.

Even though My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off series, watching Season 2 is essential to understand Shota Aizawa’s history and how Kurogiri came to be. This important flashback provides crucial context that was missing from the main My Hero Academia storyline, especially regarding the final battle against the villains. So, even if the main series takes a break, fans can still look forward to more from this hero universe next year.
