After nine years, the TV anime My Hero Academia is ending in just a few weeks, and a recent update suggests fans might not get a complete adaptation of the story. The manga concluded with chapter 430, but two additional chapters were later released, leaving the anime with two possible paths to follow for its finale.
The anime is nearing its end, with only four or five chapters of Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga remaining to be adapted, focusing on the aftermath of the hero-villain war. With the final episode confirmed to air in three weeks and have a typical length, viewers may not see a complete adaptation of the manga’s ending, as manga readers have experienced.
My Hero Academia Won’t Have an Extended Finale
The official website for My Hero Academia has announced that the series finale will air in Japan on December 13th. The episode will be a standard length, disappointing some fans who hoped for an extended finale. Since the anime is finishing the story from the manga, the regular runtime suggests the episode might not be able to cover everything, potentially only adapting the very last chapter released in Shonen Jump. This could be frustrating for anime viewers.
The original ending of My Hero Academia wasn’t necessarily flawed, but it sparked a lot of discussion among fans about the future of characters like Izuku Midoriya. While it offered more closure than some series receive, it wasn’t Kohei Horikoshi’s final vision. A year later, Horikoshi added two extra chapters in special releases, providing further details and creating a more complete and satisfying conclusion to the story.
What Does This Mean for the End?

This extended ending stays true to the original My Hero Academia story, and many fans consider it the real conclusion due to the powerful final scenes author Kohei Horikoshi was able to add. That’s why the next three episodes are so important. While viewers anticipate how the anime will end, some might be disappointed if it doesn’t fully capture the scope of the story – especially when they learn what was left out.
Despite the upcoming end of the My Hero Academia anime series, the franchise isn’t necessarily over. Similar to how movies were released between seasons of the TV show, a new film could adapt the remaining story chapters. This suggests there’s still potential for future My Hero Academia content.
