The world of Naruto has long been marked by constant warfare between ninja clans. For centuries, these clans fought, each with its own special abilities, causing widespread violence. Hoping to end this cycle of conflict, Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha founded the Hidden Leaf Village, aiming to unite the clans. Other villages followed suit, eventually forming the Five Great Nations. Unfortunately, lasting peace remained elusive, as these new nations soon engaged in a series of devastating Great Wars.
The world was slowly recovering from years of terrible conflict when Madara Uchiha started the Fourth Great Ninja War, resulting in thousands of deaths. Each of the four major wars featured a remarkably powerful ninja who made significant contributions to their village, and who were figures most people wouldn’t dare oppose.
4) Hashirama Senju in The First Great Ninja War

Hashirama helped create the village alongside Madara Uchiha and became its first leader because the ninja clans trusted him. He was a key figure in the First Great Ninja War and died around that time, though the exact cause of his death remains a mystery. Throughout the series, it’s clear Hashirama was incredibly powerful – before Naruto and Sasuke, he was considered the strongest shinobi in the world, surpassing anyone seen in generations.
3) Hiruzen Sarutobi in The Second Great Ninja War

Hiruzen served as Hokage for a remarkably long time, initially taking the position after Minato’s death and previously during the First Great Ninja War when Tobirama Senju passed the responsibility to him. He was renowned throughout the ninja world for his incredible knowledge of jutsu – he mastered all five elemental types, setting him apart from others. Hiruzen not only trained the famous Sanin, but he also learned from the two Hokage before him, and his extensive experience made him a very powerful ninja.
2) Minato Namikaze in The Third Great Ninja War

Minato was a key figure in the Hidden Leaf Village’s victory during the Third Great Ninja War, particularly against the Hidden Stone Village. He single-handedly faced an army of a thousand ninja sent by the Hidden Stone, and his incredible speed earned him the nickname ‘Yellow Flash’ and legendary status. He perfected the Flying Raijin, a powerful technique that allowed him to teleport, and even invented the Rasengan, a move later mastered by Naruto. Because of his heroism during the war, Minato was selected to become Hokage.
1) Naruto Uzumaki in The Fourth Great Ninja War

Throughout most of Naruto’s journey, he could only access a portion of Kurama’s power. But that all shifted during the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Combining his Sage Mode with everything he’d learned and his skill with techniques like the Rinnegan and Shadow Clone Jutsu, he became strong enough to battle even Madara Uchiha as an equal. Honestly, the only person who could rival his strength was Sasuke. Together, the two of them always did everything they could to protect the village.
