NBA Star Malik Beasley Reportedly Subject of Federal Gambling Investigation

It’s being reported that Detroit Pistons player Malik Beasley is under scrutiny for potential gambling issues, specifically related to wagers on NBA games.

It emerged on June 29th that there were investigations by the U.S. district attorney’s office regarding Beasley, aged 28, due to gambling accusations. ESPN, who first reported this news, stated that prominent betting sites noticed an unusually high level of interest in Beasley’s statistics for the year 2024.

Beasley’s legal representative quickly countered the allegations, stating that the guard in question has not, as of yet, been formally indicted for any criminal offense.

Steve Haney, Beasley’s lawyer, clarified to ESPN that “an investigation does not equate to a charge.” He emphasized that Malik, just like any other individual under the U.S. Constitution, is entitled to the presumption of innocence. At this point, he has not been formally accused or charged with anything.

Us Weekly has reached out for comment.

In June 2024, Beasley, a former Milwaukee Bucks basketball player, joined the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons, along with the entire NBA, have committed to assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Mike Bass, an NBA spokesperson, confirmed to NBC Sports that they are working together with the federal investigators.

Previously, Beasley faced charges for a felony weapons offense in 2020. He admitted guilt and was given a 120-day prison term along with three years of probation. Following the 2020-2021 NBA season, this professional athlete served his sentence and subsequently received a 12-game league suspension.

In that very year, Montana Yao, who was then Beasley’s wife, initiated divorce proceedings following allegations of him dating reality TV personality Larsa Pippen from “Real Housewives of Miami”. Beasley and Yao, now aged 27, have a son named Makai together, born in the year 2019.

In a statement from May 2021, Beasley expressed his regret for placing Yao in difficult circumstances over the past few months, acknowledging his lack of focus during this period. He admitted he was searching for something elsewhere when it was right under his nose all along. To both the world and Yao specifically, Beasley emphasized that there is no one else quite like Yao for him.

He stated, “Just wanted to clarify, it was me who concluded my previous relationship because there’s no one quite like you. Moreover, I felt it was necessary to move forward independently as I had just departed from that group and I’m not the kind to arrange public displays of affection at the mall – that’s immature behavior. I’m focusing on personal growth and starting a family. I’m seeking forgiveness rather than judgment. Please forgive me for the pain I caused my family.

Yao later withdrew her petition, only to file again in March of this year.
