After four years since Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) left the show, NCIS is hinting at a new path for Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover). Kasie has been a valuable member of the Major Case Response Team (MCRT) for seven years, becoming a series regular in Season 16 following Abby Sciuto’s (Pauley Perrette) exit in Season 15. While Abby is a fan favorite, Kasie has proven to be a strong addition to the team.
NCIS Season 23 will bring new storylines for the team’s forensic scientist, and a significant episode for Alden Parker’s team. Parker faced a life-threatening situation while pursuing Carla Marino, and while he’s back with the team, his relationship with Leon Vance is strained, as Vance has given Nick Torres and Jessica Knight separate assignments. Meanwhile, McGee and Jimmy are experiencing a quieter period, but Kasie’s workload is increasing.
Kasie Hines Wants to Get Out in the Field in NCIS Season 23
During an investigation on “NCIS: Hawai’i”, Kasie Hines expresses her desire to participate in fieldwork. Jessica Knight playfully suggests Kasie needs to leave the lab more often, and Kasie responds seriously, questioning why she’s limited to lab work. She even asks when she might be able to join a case in the field. Knight continues to tease, jokingly suggesting it will be when Kasie stops talking about herself in the third person.
Kasie Hines raises a valid point, and Knight is interested in her ideas. After reviewing the evidence Kasie uncovered on Molly Delgado’s (Denise G. Sanchez) phone, Jess seriously tells Kasie she’d like her to join the field team. Every moment and conversation feels important, and it’s worth mentioning that Kasie is looking for new challenges. This could give her a chance to prove herself, work more closely with the team, and potentially secure a long-term position in the field.
NCIS Season 22 Made a Blueprint For Kasie Hines’ Fieldwork
The concept is believable, and Kasie was recently investigating a case in the field this year. In the episode “Ladies Night,” Jessica’s sister, Robin Knight, returns and treats Kasie and Jess to a relaxing girls’ night out. But when something about the case feels off to Jess, she and Kasie find it hard to let go. They eventually conduct an experiment using the kiln in their pottery class, which annoys Robin and the studio owner, but helps them develop a plan for Kasie Hines’ future fieldwork.
In the episode “Ladies Night,” Kasie demonstrates she can solve cases even without all her usual high-tech gear. By firing the Knight necklace in her pottery kiln, Kasie and Jess uncover crucial evidence and share it with MCRT, helping them make progress in the investigation. Although Kasie’s studio experiment was a little messy, Vance is willing to provide her with a more portable setup if he’s convinced it will help the team solve cases more efficiently.
In the latest episode of NCIS Season 21, “Lifeline,” Kasie becomes involved in a case during Vance’s Walk-a-Mile Day. While working at dispatch, she receives an important call from Eric Webb, a former NCIS agent who is unwilling to talk to anyone else. This episode highlights Kasie’s ability to connect with people, demonstrating that she’s not only a talented lab technician but also capable of effectively working with individuals crucial to the investigation.
How NCIS Season 23 Can Get Kasie Hines Out in the Field
The team is currently working well together, but Kasie shows potential. However, she hasn’t clearly explained how she’d like to participate in field work. It seems she’s more interested in helping with investigations than becoming a full-fledged agent. Regardless of her plans, working at active crime scenes is much more dangerous than her current work in the NCIS Headquarters basement and evidence garage, and the team wants to keep her safe.
Jimmy often works out in the field and doesn’t have the same training as the main agents. Getting Kasie involved in field work could be as easy as having her join the team to gather evidence she finds important. While it would change the usual relationships and expectations within the show, having Kasie work more closely with the MCRT team would be a fresh and exciting direction for Season 23 of NCIS. This kind of shift in a key character’s role is perfect for the current season, as it allows for change without needing to add or remove any characters.
