Why is the game not coming to the PS5?
It’s surprising that the next Horizon game won’t be available on PS5, considering the previous games were only released for that console.
Regardless, the new Horizon game will only release on PC and mobile platforms.
NCSoft’s Lee Song told 4Gamer that there’s no technical reason preventing them from releasing their game on the PlayStation 5. However, he explained that the final decision isn’t up to them.
Song stated that NCSOFT is eager to move forward with the project, as there are no apparent obstacles, but it requires discussion and isn’t a decision they can make independently.
In a recent interview with GameWatch, it was mentioned that releasing Horizon Steel Frontiers on the PS5 is a technical possibility.
However, NCSoft is still currently in discussion with Sony about this.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is a new online multiplayer game that lets you experience the world of Horizon alongside other players in a post-apocalyptic setting. If you’re unfamiliar, it expands the existing Horizon universe with this cooperative experience.
Based on the gameplay shown, it looks like this game is aiming for a similar action style to Monster Hunter.
Interestingly, this game is launching on PC and mobile devices before or alongside the PlayStation release, which is a departure from how previous Horizon games have been released.
The development team is prioritizing mobile platforms to reach a wider audience. However, NCSoft still intends to deliver a beautiful game world that matches the look and feel of the main Horizon series.
Whether the game releases on PlayStation or not is something that we’ll just have to wait and see.
