The 1980s were a golden age for horror films. While the genre has seen strong periods recently and in the late 90s/early 2000s, the 80s still feel uniquely special. That decade gave us a huge number of classic horror movies – everything from famous slasher films to groundbreaking sci-fi and body horror. And one of those masterpieces is now available to stream on Paramount+, making it a great choice for a Halloween movie night.
David Cronenberg’s 1986 version of *The Fly* remains a timeless horror and sci-fi masterpiece. Even though it celebrated its 40th anniversary recently, the film – a chilling story about a scientist’s horrifying transformation into a fly – boasts special effects that still hold up against modern movies. It’s also easier to watch now than ever, though fans are still hoping for a long-awaited 4K restoration.
Starting October 1st, you can stream the classic horror film *The Fly* on Paramount+, and it’s also already available on Hulu. This makes one of the best movies from the 1980s – and maybe ever – very easy to watch. If you have 95 minutes free this Halloween and haven’t seen it, now’s a great time to check it out.
The Fly II Is Still Completely Missing From Streaming
David Cronenberg’s *The Fly* is a reimagining of a 1958 film with the same title. Interestingly, this version spawned a sequel, *The Fly II*, which came out in 1989. While not as popular as the original, *The Fly II* still has its own devoted fans. Unfortunately, you can’t currently stream the sequel on the same platforms as the first film.
The sequel, *The Fly II*, isn’t available on any of the same streaming platforms as the original Cronenberg film. In fact, you can’t stream, rent, or even buy it digitally from popular services like Amazon or Apple. It’s completely inaccessible online.
Currently, the only way to officially watch *The Fly II* is by purchasing the DVD or Blu-ray. Luckily, both versions are readily available and reasonably priced. You can find copies on Amazon for between $20 and $30.
The sequel, *The Fly II*, features Eric Stoltz as the son of Jeff Goldblum’s character. After his birth, the child is adopted by the company where his father worked and began his transformation into a fly. They study him, knowing he carries the same genetic material and will probably experience a similar, frightening mutation. While it doesn’t quite live up to the original *The Fly*, the sequel is still a decent horror follow-up if you’re interested in watching it.
