Nearly Every Movie in DreamWorks’ Biggest Franchise Just Landed on Prime Video Ahead of Sequel Next Year

As a huge animation fan, I’ve always loved DreamWorks – they just consistently deliver! They’ve had so many hits, like Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda, and they’re really good at turning those into long-running franchises. With a new movie coming out next year for one of their biggest series, it’s awesome that Prime Video is now streaming almost every film in that franchise – perfect for a binge-watching session!

Get ready to revisit the swamp! All four of the original Shrek movies – Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Shrek Forever After – are now available on Prime Video. The Puss in Boots films aren’t currently included. Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, the hugely popular Shrek series is the second-highest-grossing animated franchise of all time (and 18th overall!), and it continues to be a success. Fans can look forward to Shrek 5, which is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2027.

DreamWorks’ Shrek Remains an Unbeatable Animated Franchise

Few anticipated the massive success of Shrek, but the first film defied expectations to become a cultural phenomenon that remains popular today and has consistently delivered sequels that resonate with audiences. Beyond its groundbreaking CGI animation and realistic characters, Shrek brilliantly blended classic fairy tales with playful, often sarcastic humor, creating a beloved film with appeal for all ages. Filled with memorable moments and quotable lines – like “Get out of my swamp!” and the “Do you know the muffin man?” scene – alongside fantastic characters, a stellar voice cast, and a hit soundtrack featuring songs like Smash Mouth’s “All Star,” Shrek truly defined a generation.

Even though some of the Shrek movies weren’t as well-received—like Shrek the Third, which only received a 41% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes—the films remain enjoyable and still have the funny, heartwarming quality of the first movie. The series has stayed popular even as it shifted to focus on characters like Puss in Boots, and it continues to resonate with audiences more than 20 years later. Shrek is still a big part of pop culture, and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Shrek 5, which is one of the most anticipated animated films in development.

What’s New on Prime Video?

Prime Video started the month off strong with the addition of the Shrek movies, along with a bunch of other popular films. You can now stream titles like Airport, Super 8, The Shallows, Twelve Monkeys, and Uptown Girls, and even more movies will be added throughout the month.
