Neighbours finale week: Tragedy strikes as another 9 old faces return to say goodbye to Ramsay Street

The long-running soap opera Neighbours is ending soon, with its last episode airing in just three weeks.

This announcement follows the recent cancellation of the show – its third in four decades. Amazon MGM Media, the current production company, has chosen not to order any episodes beyond the initial 460 it commissioned.

Filming wrapped up in July, and executive producer Jason Herbison shared that ‘Neighbours’ is a beloved show, and he was proud to have created recent seasons for its dedicated fans worldwide. They added 460 new episodes, bringing the show’s total to over 9,000 – a significant accomplishment for everyone involved.

We’re ending this part of the story with a sense of hope and hinting at exciting things to come for the residents of Ramsay Street.

The street is scheduled to be torn down for a new freeway, but the people who live there are determined to resist the demolition.

With a campaign starting to protect the iconic Melbourne cul-de-sac, the popular character Shane Ramsay (played by Peter O’Brien) returns with a surprising solution: he suggests residents relocate to a new housing development in the countryside.

But Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) has a different plan. Recent photos reveal he’s taking a group of current and former neighbors on a trip to explore a new location in the city.

What’s going to happen? Will the residents be able to save their street, or will they all decide to move away and begin new lives elsewhere?

Whether that question will be answered is still uncertain. With so many other storylines coming to a climax in the final four episodes, figuring it out won’t be simple.

The Linwell brothers launch a last-ditch effort to harm the Varga-Murphys by kidnapping young JJ, played by Riley Bryant. Meanwhile, Holly Hoyland, portrayed by Lucinda Armstrong-Hall, frantically runs down Power Road and collapses.

She later shares a tearful conversation with her partner, Andrew Rodwell (played by Lloyd Will), while in the hospital. This raises questions about the future of their baby.

Surprisingly, his wife Wendy (Candice Leask) is also by the bedside.

Krista Tanaka delivers surprising news, leading to a major choice. Meanwhile, Paul plans a sweet, impromptu celebration for his partner, Terese Willis, right in their backyard.

Love is blossoming for Jane Harris (Annie Jones) as she thinks about her relationship with Clint Hendry (Jason Wilder). Meanwhile, the long-standing conflict between Paul and Shane Robinson and Ramsay flares up again in the last episode.

In addition to Shane, Sam Kratz, Annalise Hartman, Sue Parker, Mackenzie Hargreaves, Haz Devkar, Lucas Fitzgerald, Levi Canning, and Remi Varga-Murphy, nine more beloved characters will be returning for the final episodes of the show as Erinsborough says goodbye.

Here’s a look at everyone else confirmed to be returning:

Ramsay Street residents reunite as a further 9 returns are confirmed

1. Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden)

Everyone misses Melanie and her wonderful laugh. It was a real shame when she left.

Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy, first joined the cast of Neighbours in 1987, when the show was at its most popular. He’s one of the few actors who has been featured in episodes every decade since then.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting her return ever since her memorable exit in March, and now she’s back! A new photo shows her with the rest of the cast and crew, offering a glimpse behind the scenes.

2. Nell Rebecchi (Ayisha Salem-Towner)

We didn’t see Nell leave too long ago – she left with her dad, Toadie (Ryan Moloney), back in September.

She participated in Paul’s scouting trip to the city, but will probably return for Paul and Terese’s party.

3. Jimmy Williams (Darcy Tadich)

Jimmy has grown a lot since his last visit to Australia. As Paul’s grandson, he travels to Melbourne with his family and eventually joins the fun, just like Nell.

Darcy first portrayed Jimmy from 2015 to 2018. He later made guest appearances as the character in 2019 and again on New Year’s Day in 2020.

4 and 5. Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) and Rhett Norman (Liam Maguire)

In September, Aaron quickly moved across the country to be near his mother and sister, who both have Huntington’s disease, hoping to start a fresh chapter in his life.

Pictures show him enjoying brekkie with the Harris-Stone clan, alongside another old face… Rhett!

Aaron also moved to Adelaide because of a change in Rhett’s family situation. Shortly after they became a couple, the mother of Rhett’s daughter said she was moving away from Melbourne.

Could they be deciding to swap states in the show’s final days?

6. Kiri Durant (Gemma Bird Matheson)

Kiri was a consistent character in the final months of the show Neighbours in 2022. She left the series to live with her father, Glen Donnelly (played by Richard Huggett), on Magnetic Island after a period of estrangement.

She had a short-lived relationship with Nicolette Stone, played by Hannah Monson, and reappeared on the show briefly last year.

Could they have a happy ending together?

Matheson has continued contributing to the soap off-screen as a writer.

7. Ned Willis (Ben Hall)

Ben Hall, who previously played Terese’s stepson Ned, is returning to the show after last appearing in 2022.

Having lived here for six years, he’s well-connected in the community and will quickly resume his normal activities.

8. Byron Stone (Xavier Molyneux)

Byron went to live with former housemates Mack and Haz in Paris in August.

Although now starring in Amazon’s new Viking series, Bloodaxe, Molyneux still found time to support the show that first brought him attention.

Fans will notice he’s now sporting an impressive beard as a result of his Nordic adventures…

9. Roxy Canning (Zima Anderson)

Everyone’s favourite, Foxy Roxy, is returning to Neighbours! She made a short appearance earlier this year, and it just wouldn’t feel right to end the show without her.

Roxy always seems to find herself in the middle of drama, and it looks like she’s not going to be pleased to hear Ramsay Street is in danger.
