A popular show from Starz is back on Netflix after being gone for over five years, and fans are thrilled! Starz has a reputation for quality television, and this historical action series, originally aired in the early 2010s, is considered one of their best. With a sequel series on the way to continue the story after more than a decade, all four seasons of the original show became available on Netflix in September 2025.
All four seasons of the popular historical drama *Spartacus* are now available for Netflix subscribers. This includes the original series – *Spartacus: Blood and Sand*, *Spartacus: Vengeance*, and *Spartacus: War of the Damned* – as well as the prequel miniseries, *Spartacus: Gods of the Arena*. The shows began streaming on Netflix on September 23rd. Created by Steven S. DeKnight and Robert Tapert, *Spartacus* originally aired on Starz from 2010 to 2013. It’s based on the true story of Spartacus, a Thracian gladiator who led a large revolt against the Roman Republic between 73 and 71 BC. Andy Whitfield initially played the lead role, and Liam McIntyre took over for the final two seasons after Whitfield’s death in 2011.
Why You Should Watch Spartacus
While critics gave Spartacus a mixed reception (around 67% on Rotten Tomatoes), it became a huge fan favorite and a cultural sensation. Known for its intense action, graphic violence, and scandalous moments, the show also featured compelling characters and a fast-moving plot, making it a standout historical epic and a truly gripping drama.
Just as the original series returns to Netflix, fans will be excited to hear that a sequel to *Spartacus*, titled *Spartacus: House of Ashur*, is coming to Starz. While a specific release date hasn’t been revealed, it’s expected to arrive this winter. The new 10-episode series picks up six months after the events of *War of the Damned*, with John Tabery once again playing Spartacus. Steven S. DeKnight is back as showrunner and executive producer, and he’ll be joined by a cast including Graham McTavish, Tenika Davis, Ivana Baquero, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, Cameron Rhodes, and Leigh Gill.
New TV Shows Streaming on Netflix
Netflix has recently added a variety of new shows and movies to its streaming service. In September, viewers can enjoy all seasons of the mini-series *A Thousand Tomorrows*, the drama *Franklin & Bash*, and the sci-fi thriller *Orphan Black*, starring Tatiana Maslany. The platform has also expanded its offerings with new seasons of *Nashville*, *S.W.A.T.*, and *Ancient Aliens*, along with shows like *Spartacus*.
Netflix kept the good stuff coming in September! I finally got to see how the story wraps up in Season 2 of *Wednesday*, and fans of Tyler Perry were treated to more of *Beauty in Black*. But the biggest news for me is the return of *Alice in Borderland* – Season 3 drops on September 25th, and trust me, you won’t want to miss it!
