Netflix is planning to release many popular TV shows this year, with even more new content arriving next month. However, as always, some shows will be cancelled, and we just learned about one such cancellation this week. In fact, Netflix cancelled two shows at the same time, and one of them was a beloved series that many fans will be disappointed to see end after only two seasons.
Netflix has cancelled two shows: The Vince Staples Show after two seasons and The Abandons after only one, according to Deadline. While both series had trouble attracting viewers, The Vince Staples Show received excellent reviews and positive feedback from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting it had built a dedicated following after its first season.
Honestly, it’s a real shame this show got cancelled. It started so strong – everyone was talking about it after season one! Though, I will say, the tone shifted quite a bit between seasons one and two, and maybe that’s why it couldn’t keep that initial momentum going. People were even comparing it to Atlanta at one point, which is high praise, but sadly, it just wasn’t meant to be. It’s over now, and that stings.
Why Did Netflix Cancel The Vince Staples Show

I was really disappointed to hear The Vince Staples Show was cancelled, and while Netflix hasn’t said so directly, they did share some viewership data that sadly explains why. According to their report for the second half of 2025, season two only reached 1.7 million views, which put it at number 1446 on their list. It’s a shame, but those numbers seem to be the reason it won’t be coming back.
I’ve been following The Vince Staples Show, and I was really impressed with how well season 1 did – it racked up 4.6 million views between February and June of this year. Critics and audiences both loved it, giving it scores of 84% and 88% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s a little strange though, season 2 doesn’t have scores on Rotten Tomatoes yet, which makes me wonder if people aren’t talking about it as much.
Fans immediately shared their thoughts online. Ellis posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying it was predictable but still disappointing. Another user, 3Stacks, also on X, pointed out that the second season felt unfocused and made it difficult to care about the characters because the storyline wasn’t always clear.
TK noticed a lack of quality, commenting that the creators seemed to prioritize popularity over substance. GiD felt the show’s marketing was weak, comparing it to ‘Atlanta’ but set in Los Angeles, and expressed disappointment that Netflix canceled it so quickly despite enjoying the show. Izaiah Reed was very upset about the cancellation, stating they couldn’t forgive Netflix for both letting the show fail and not properly promoting it.
Although season 2 wasn’t quite as strong as the first, The Vince Staples Show still managed to stand out in a busy television environment. It’s disappointing that the show won’t return for a third season, and fans won’t get to see what happens next with Vince Staples and his team.
The Vince Staples Show seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
