The latest findings show that the most-watched anime on Netflix in the first half of 2025 is quite unexpected, with rankings you wouldn’t predict. Believe it or not, even though shows like One Piece and the ongoing Pokemon franchise are massive, they have been outperformed by a series that isn’t necessarily the first one that comes to mind as a top contender – the long-running detective series, Case Closed, or Detective Conan.
According to a Netflix article titled “What We Watched in the First Half of 2025” on their official site, some fascinating insights about anime’s popularity are presented. The top 10 most-watched anime, measured by hours viewed versus available hours across series and movies, revealed that Naruto and Naruto Shippuden continued to dominate with approximately 40 million views, boosted by an extra 10 million from Boruto’s installments. Studio Ghibli came in second with 39 million views, but what might be surprising for North American viewers is that Detective Conan trailed closely behind with 38 million.
It’s no shock that Detective Conan once again shared the number one spot, followed closely by One Piece. Pokémon just missed out with 37.6 million views. The Seven Deadly Sins and newer anime from the past decade like Sakamoto Days had around 26 million each, while Demon Slayer earned 23 million. The Japanese favorite Anpanman recorded 16 million views, and Attack on Titan, a genre classic, garnered 15 million views in tenth place. It’s worth mentioning that the longevity of Detective Conan is truly impressive, even though it may be less recognized outside Japan.
Netflix’s New Data Is Interesting, to Say the Least
In the world of manga by Gosho Aoyama, who’s also known for Yaiba, and anime produced by TMS Entertainment, we follow the story of Shinichi Kudo, a sharp-witted detective. After being poisoned by a criminal organization and miniaturized, he disguises himself as Conan Edogawa to protect himself and his loved ones. Living with his childhood friend Ran Mouri and her detective father, Kogoro, he helps out at their agency while covertly investigating the very syndicate responsible for his transformation. All the while, he manages to keep his true identity hidden from Ran.
It’s quite intriguing that Naruto has claimed the top spot, considering the extended hiatus of new content and the fact that the original anime concluded in 2017. Yet, the enduring appeal of the young Uzumaki character is evident, as we await Boruto’s sequel anime.
One Piece, while undeniably popular, ranks lower than one might expect, owing to the absence of several hundred episodes from Netflix’s library. Although the One Piece Live-Action boosted its popularity, only 798 out of 1138 numbered episodes are available on Netflix, which may deter a series fan from subscribing.
Netflix originals have been thriving, as evidenced by Sakamoto Days and The Seven Deadly Sins’ rankings. Other original series like Delicious in Dungeon performed well last year, ensuring that Netflix-produced anime will continue to attract a dedicated audience.
It’s worth mentioning that longer anime tend to make it onto this list more often, as the total runtime plays a significant role in the metrics. Notably, series such as Dandadan, The Summer Hikaru Died, and even Tougen Anki are currently doing well on the site and are expected to rank high among the most-streamed anime once the year-end data is unveiled.
