Steven Spielberg is returning to science fiction in 2026 with a new film called Disclosure Day, marking his first sci-fi project since 2018. This film continues Spielberg’s long history with alien stories, ranging from action-packed invasion movies to the heartwarming family drama of E.T., and reflects his enduring message to remain vigilant. Fans can also now stream one of Spielberg’s lesser-known sci-fi films from 2011, which also explores the theme of aliens as a threat to humankind.
All five seasons of the sci-fi series Falling Skies, which originally aired on TNT from 2011 to 2015, are now available on Netflix. This is great news for fans who haven’t been able to stream the show recently, as it wasn’t on any major streaming services for a while. If you enjoy science fiction, it’s worth checking out, especially with the upcoming ‘Disclosure Day’ this summer. You can watch the trailer here:
Falling Skies Is For Fans Of These Sci-Fi Shows…
If you enjoy shows like The 100, Snowpiercer, or Jericho, you’ll likely appreciate Falling Skies. These shows all focus on how people fight back and survive after a major disaster, whether it’s an alien attack or something else. They also all feature strong acting. Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle as a history professor who becomes the leader of a group trying to rebuild society six months after an alien invasion nearly wiped out humankind.
Like many post-apocalyptic dramas, The Walking Dead shares similarities, though it takes some commitment to get through its weaker points. Steven Spielberg was an executive producer, and the show was created by Robert Rodat, who worked with him on Saving Private Ryan. At its heart, the show focuses on human resilience, and actor Kyle Wyle’s strong performance was crucial to its five-season run. While some criticize the show for not fully developing its characters, the core idea is compelling enough that it’s held up better over time than initial reviews indicated.
A surprisingly good thing about the show Falling Skies is that it had a proper ending. Because the creators knew it was going to be cancelled, they had time to finish the story. While this did affect the show’s pacing, the final episodes actually hold up really well, even years later.
