Netflix has been building its own popular series for a while, and now has a few well-known franchises. While Stranger Things currently has just the main show, with video games and a spin-off on the way, and Bridgerton has earned multiple seasons and a prequel, this week saw the release of a new installment in Netflix’s biggest franchise with several spin-offs. Despite the new episodes being available for fans, some controversy and mixed reviews have emerged, as the show hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.
Netflix dropped the fourth season of its popular fantasy series, The Witcher, this week, solidifying its place as one of the streaming giant’s biggest franchises. While Virgin River has the most seasons (eight in total) and Squid Game boasts the highest viewership, The Witcher now leads in terms of overall content produced. However, the new season isn’t without its challenges, as it introduces significant changes to the show.
The Witcher Now Streaming New Episodes, But Fans Aren’t Sure

Henry Cavill, known for playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, has left the show. Liam Hemsworth will now take on the role. This change has left fans feeling uneasy, as they’ve been concerned about Hemsworth replacing Cavill since the announcement. The reasons behind Cavill’s departure are unclear, and many viewers are worried about how the show will continue without him, or if they’ll even enjoy it with a new lead actor.
Early reviews for The Witcher Season 4 are somewhat mixed, with 12 reviews currently giving it a 50% approval rating. However, our own Matt Aguilar gave the season a strong four out of five stars, praising the show’s cast and noting that Liam Hemsworth does a good job in the lead role. Now that the episodes have been released, it’s up to viewers to decide for themselves what they think.
The arrival of The Witcher Season 4 solidifies the series as Netflix’s most significant franchise. Beyond the four seasons of the main Witcher show—with a fifth already filmed and coming soon—Netflix has created more spin-offs for this series than any other. These include the prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin, and two animated films, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. While the future of The Witcher on Netflix after Season 5 is uncertain, Netflix’s substantial investment suggests it will likely return in some capacity.
