Netflix is becoming a major player in the world of anime. As one of the largest streaming services, it offers a growing library of both original anime series and popular seasonal shows, often including anime movies too. While Crunchyroll releases a lot of new series each month, Netflix stands out with its selection of anime films. Though Netflix recently partnered with Sony Pictures to gain rights to many films, this deal doesn’t currently include anime titles.
A recent list from “What’s on Netflix” revealed Sony Pictures movies coming to the platform in 2026 and beyond, but didn’t include any anime films. Anime movies like “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle,” which Sony Pictures distributes, will likely stream on Crunchyroll, the leading platform for anime fans. While Crunchyroll generally has the newest series quickly, adding films can take more time. Despite Netflix becoming more involved with anime, it seems there are still limitations, as the latest movie lineup for Winter 2026 also disappointed many anime fans.
Netflix Still Isn’t Streaming Some of The Major Anime of Winter 2026

The winter anime season of 2026 is shaping up to be fantastic, with new seasons of popular shows like Jujutsu Kaisen (Season 3), Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Season 2), and Hell’s Paradise (Season 3). Currently, these new seasons are only available weekly in certain parts of Asia. While previous seasons are already available to watch, there’s no word yet on when the latest episodes will be released elsewhere. We anticipate they’ll become available sometime after the season concludes.
As I’ve been watching, it seems like Crunchyroll is really the go-to place for anime fans outside of Japan. They release episodes weekly, and they’re dominating the scene right now. Big series like the final season of Fire Force and Sentenced to Be a Hero are all there, and it’s unclear if or when they’ll ever show up on Netflix. Netflix did have a couple of interesting releases this month – Love Through a Prism and Cosmic Princess Kaguya were good – but overall, they just haven’t been adding as many new shows and movies as Crunchyroll.
The anime world is likely in for some big shifts thanks to a new partnership with MAPPA, a leading Japanese animation studio known for hits like Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and the final season of Attack on Titan. While it’s unclear what projects will come from this collaboration, the deal gives exclusive global streaming rights to MAPPA’s anime and intends to create a fully integrated, top-tier animation studio that showcases the entire creative process.
