Netflix has recently added a lot of popular animated movies, especially from well-known family franchises. These films have consistently been popular with viewers on Netflix, and this current run is proving no different. However, these titles were only ever intended to be available for a limited time.
Over the next few weeks, most of the Shrek and Despicable Me movies will be removed from Netflix. That’s right – two of the most popular animated franchises won’t be available on the streaming service for now.
Even though the Shrek movies just became available on Netflix, most of them will be removed at the end of the month. Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Puss in Boots will all be gone on November 1st, leaving only Shrek: Forever After still available to stream.
The Despicable Me movies are also seeing some changes on Netflix. Currently, several films in the series are available to stream, but three of them – Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and Minions – will be removed on October 31st. Despicable Me 3 and the newest installment, Despicable Me 4, will remain on the platform for now.
Netflix has seen franchises come and go before, so this isn’t unusual. However, subscribers might be annoyed that so many titles are leaving at the same time, particularly the Shrek movies, which were recently added in the last few months.
It looks like the Shrek movies are going to disappear from Peacock at the same time they leave Netflix, which is bad news for anyone who streams to watch them. Since November’s streaming guides haven’t come out yet, we don’t know where these movies will be available next month, or even if they’ll be on major streaming services at all. They might end up being available for a couple of months only through video-on-demand services, where you have to buy or rent them.
If your kids love movies like Shrek or Despicable Me and want to watch them repeatedly, it’s a smart idea to buy the Blu-ray or DVD. Players are affordable, and popular movies are usually reasonably priced. This way, you only pay once and don’t have to worry about whether they’ll be available on streaming services.
