Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery have agreed to a massive deal worth $87.2 billion. Netflix will be acquiring Warner Bros.’ film and television production, its valuable content library, and its entire gaming division.

The gaming division includes well-known developers like Rocksteady (known for the Batman: Arkham series), NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat), Traveller’s Tales (LEGO games), and Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy).

Netflix won the bid for Warner Bros. Discovery after competing against other companies, including Comcast and Paramount Skydance, who were also very interested in the purchase.

The deal still needs to be approved by regulators, but is currently projected to be finalized sometime in the third quarter of 2026.

Netflix and Warner Bros. both scaled back their gaming divisions earlier this year

Recent changes at Netflix and Warner Bros. show both companies are scaling back their video game efforts. Over the last year, Netflix closed several game studios, including Team Blue, which was home to developers who previously worked on popular franchises like Halo and God of War. Warner Bros. Games also canceled a Wonder Woman game and shut down multiple studios, including those behind the MultiVersus game and support teams in San Diego.

Looking ahead, Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new Batman game and Avalanche Software is developing a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, but both are likely years away. More immediately, Traveller’s Tales is creating LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, planned for release on Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
