Netflix has quickly become a top choice for anime fans, offering a huge library of shows and ranking as the second-largest anime streaming service after Crunchyroll. Beyond just hosting existing anime, Netflix is also actively creating new content, including live-action versions of popular series. It’s become a major player in the anime world, with many current, popular shows like Witch Hat Atelier and Daemons of the Shadow Realm premiering there. However, despite its strengths, Netflix isn’t perfect when it comes to anime.
Many shows and movies on Netflix, including a lot of anime, aren’t made directly by Netflix. This means they’re subject to licensing deals, and when those deals end, the titles are often removed. Unfortunately, the popular 2023 anime series Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead will be leaving Netflix on July 7th. It was already only available in certain countries, and now it’s also being removed from viewers in Western regions next month.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Anime Is Leaving Netflix
With its fresh take on the zombie genre, Zom 100 quickly became a hit anime during the summer of 2023. Praised for its stunning animation by Bug Films – the same studio currently earning acclaim for Witch Hat Atelier – it was arguably one of the most visually impressive anime of the year. However, the initial release faced several delays due to production problems. Sadly, there’s been no news about a second season, and now that the show has been removed from Netflix, its future seems uncertain.
Despite its flaws, this anime is definitely worth watching – you might even enjoy it multiple times! Unlike most zombie stories that focus on fear and staying alive, Zom 100 is surprisingly fun and about finding freedom during the apocalypse. The story centers on Akira, who was deeply unhappy with his job. When a zombie outbreak starts, he’s actually relieved because he no longer has to go to work. Knowing he might eventually become a zombie himself, Akira makes a list of 100 things he wants to do before that happens and sets off to achieve them.
This anime offers a fun and refreshing take on the usual zombie survival story. Though the plot can get a bit wild at times, it’s really about the desire for freedom that many people feel in their jobs. It’s a truly unique show that Netflix users shouldn’t miss, especially since it’s leaving the platform soon. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to find it on other streaming services and there’s even a live-action movie! But, if you want to get the most out of your Netflix subscription this month, watching Zom 100 before it’s gone is a great idea.
