Netflix Is Making a Time Travel Movie Based on Sci-Fi Video Game That Hasn’t Even Released Yet

Netflix is poised to become even more influential in Hollywood, especially with its upcoming legal action against Warner Bros. However, the company isn’t slowing down on adding new content. In fact, its latest project is a science fiction movie based on a video game – and surprisingly, that game hasn’t even come out yet.

Netflix is planning a movie based on the upcoming video game Kingmakers, developed by Redemption Road Games and published by tinyBuild. Interestingly, the game was delayed just before it was supposed to launch. The script is being written by Christopher MacBride, and Netflix worked with 21 Laps and Story Kitchen to secure the rights before the game was even released. Details about the movie are still forthcoming.

What Is Kingmakers, And Why Isn’t It Released Already?

I’m really excited about this new game, Kingmakers! You play as an American mercenary who gets thrown back to 15th-century Wales with a huge mission: fix a broken timeline. Apparently, something evil messed things up, and it’s up to us to set things right. The original history in Kingmakers is amazing – the Welsh prince Owain Glyndŵr actually won his fight for independence, which led to a super-advanced world. But that’s not the world we’re in now, so we have to restore it!

An evil force from another world has altered history, resulting in England once again ruling Wales. This has plunged Wales into endless war and created a dangerous situation that threatens the entire world with otherworldly invasion.

Your mission is to travel back in time and ensure the Prince of Wales is victorious. You’ll have access to all of today’s vehicles and weapons, leading to intense and unpredictable battles against English forces. Each fight will change history as you know it. The game was originally planned to release in Early Access this October, but unfortunately, development hasn’t gone as expected.

The team behind The Kingmakers announced a delay before the game’s release, though they didn’t say how long it would be. While players were disappointed, the developers explained that the game was very ambitious and they wanted to ensure it lived up to expectations, so they needed extra time to fix some remaining problems.

A Message From the Developers:

The Steam page for Kingmakers currently just says it’s coming soon, so we don’t have a release date yet. However, the gameplay footage we’ve seen looks really good, and the game’s concept would be perfect for a movie. Hopefully, we’ll get an official release date soon – players are eager to start playing and causing some time-traveling trouble!

MacBride’s film credits include movies like The Wolf, Flashback, and Face/Off 2. He’s currently working on a new thriller called Echo. 21 Laps is also known for its work as an executive producer on Stranger Things and will produce Star Wars: Starfighter. Separately, Story Kitchen is developing adaptations of Tomb Raider, Life Is Strange, Just Cause, and Teddy Ruxpin.

Shawn Levy and Dan Levine from 21 Laps, along with Dimitri M Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy L. Stevenson from Story Kitchen, will produce the project. Alex Nichiporchik and Jon Carnage of Tiny Build will serve as executive producers. Emily Feher will manage development for 21 Laps, and Elena Sandoval will handle development for Story Kitchen.
