As a movie critic, I’m always looking ahead to what’s coming to streaming, and next month on Netflix is no different. But it’s also a bit sad – a really clever, but somehow overlooked, three-part comedy series is leaving the platform soon. If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend checking it out in the next few days before it’s gone for good!
The football comedy Blue Mountain State, starring Alan Ritchson (known from Reacher) along with Darin Brooks, Chris Romano, Page Kennedy, and Sam Jones III, is leaving Netflix. The show originally aired on Spike (now Paramount Network) in 2010 and became a popular favorite on Netflix after it ended in 2011. All 39 episodes will be removed on May 2nd, right after the sequel movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, leaves the platform on May 1st.
Blue Mountain State Is an Underrated Sitcom Worth Watching
If you have time, Blue Mountain State is a fun watch. It’s a wild and funny show—think American Pie meets college football—that follows three freshmen as they experience the crazy world of parties, hazing, and sports at a big university. While it’s definitely crude and over-the-top with its humor and storylines, it’s also surprisingly good at developing its characters, especially the lead, Thad Castle.
As fans eagerly anticipate a sequel to Blue Mountain State, the original series is leaving Netflix. The continuation, initially announced in 2024, has moved to Amazon, where Ben Ritchson will return as Thad Castle. According to Deadline, Ritchson believes it will be the best season yet, calling it incredibly funny and perfectly updating the characters for a modern audience. Dylan Brooks and Chris Romano are also expected to return, though a release date hasn’t been announced.
Where to Stream Blue Mountain State After It Leaves Netflix?
Fans of Blue Mountain State don’t need to worry about losing access to the show when it leaves Netflix. It’s currently available on several other streaming services like Tubi, The Roku Channel, PLEX, Pluto TV, The CW, and Xumo Play. You can also rent or buy episodes online. There’s a chance it could end up on another major streaming platform soon, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
